Severe Thunderstorm Warning until 10:15PM

The National Weather Service in Lincoln has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for... Northern Christian County in central Illinois... Northeastern Sangamon County in central Illinois... North central Shelby County in central Illinois... Southern Macon County in central Illinois...

* Until 1015 PM CDT.

* At 936 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Rochester, moving east at 45 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. At 935 PM, 50 mph wind gusts were reported near the north edge of Lake Springfield, and nickel size hail occurred as the storm passed through downtown Springfield. IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

* Locations impacted include... Springfield, Decatur, Mount Zion, Sherman, Rochester, Riverton, Moweaqua, Williamsville, Harristown, Long Creek, Blue Mound, Macon, Edinburg, Stonington, Illiopolis, Niantic, Mechanicsburg, Mount Auburn, Southern View and Grandview. This includes the following highways... Interstate 55 between mile markers 90 and 106. Interstate 72 between mile markers 97 and 134.

* AFFECTED AREAS: MACON, IL ... SHELBY, IL ... SANGAMON, IL ... CHRISTIAN, IL

To report severe weather, contact your nearest law enforcement agency. They will send your report to the National Weather Service office in Lincoln. Large hail and damaging winds and continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature's leading killers.
