The Cayuga Heights Police Department encourages residents to keep their property secure in order to lessen the threat of larcenies.
In light of recent reports of thefts from unsecured vehicles in the area, the Cayuga Heights Police Department would like to remind all residents to be vigilant and to help us help you lessen the threat of potential larcenies from vehicles or other locations outside of your home. Keep the following tips in mind:
Keep your homes locked and secured, even when you are at home.
Keep your vehicles locked at all times, including when you are home, and during the evening/overnight hours.
Keep all valuables within your homes or vehicles secured, ie; jewelry, heirlooms, cash or loose change, in a protected location such as a safe, and out of view.
Make arrangements with delivery services before having packages delivered to your home. Designate a safe location where the package should be placed, or arrange for someone to be at your home when deliveries are scheduled. Due to the COVID 19 “Stay at Home Order”, on-line purchasing has increased immensely. Help us help you to prevent your packages from being stolen.
Watch out for persons on or around your property/home that are not expected such as someone looking for a lost pet or soliciting work to be done in and around your homes. Solicitors are required to register with the police department before going door to door. A vendor registration card should be provided upon request. If a solicitor does not possess a vendor card, the department advises residents to gather a description of the individuals and/or vehicles in question and notify the police department immediately.
