Press Release: NPD #2020-12271 Disturbance Investigation & Pursuit (14199 Blanket Flower Lane, Noblesville) 5.5.20
Noblesville, IN – On May 5, 2020 at approximately 12:34 p.m., police officers from the Noblesville Police Department (NPD) responded to the area of 14199 Blanket Flower Lane (Noblesville) in reference to a distress call from an off-duty NPD officer.
Based on witness statements and evidence at the scene, it was reported that the off-duty NPD officer was in her marked police vehicle with her father when she was flagged down to assist with a disturbance between a male and female. The officer and her father exited the police vehicle in an effort to resolve the confrontation. In doing so, the male suspect, later identified as Edward L. Albright, Jr., 45 of Noblesville, managed to get into the officer’s vehicle and attempted to drive away. The officer and her father struggled to pull Albright out of the vehicle but were unsuccessful. During the struggle, Albright allegedly battered both the officer and her father and sprayed both with chemical spray that he had in his possession.
Albright reportedly fled the scene in the police vehicle and then confronted the driver of a 2006 Toyota Avalon in the parking lot of Sherwin-Williams Paint Store located at 14064 Britton Park Road (Fishers). Albright allegedly pulled the driver from the vehicle and proceeded to flee westbound in the eastbound lane on 141st Street before turning southbound on SR 37 in the Toyota.
A NPD officer responding to the scene observed the Toyota traveling at a high rate of speed in the wrong lane of travel on 141st Street and immediately activated his emergency lights and sirens in an attempt to stop the driver. Shortly thereafter, the officer advised the Hamilton County Public Safety Communications (HCPSC) center that the vehicle was refusing to stop and requested assistance. The vehicle pursuit traveled south on SR 37, south on I-69, west on I-465, and west on I-74 before resulting in a crash near the intersection of I-74 and SR 32 in Montgomery County when Albright attempted to exit the interstate. Officers from a number of surrounding cities, counties and Indiana State Police assisted with the pursuit. There were several attempts to terminate the pursuit utilizing pursuit intervention devices but Albright reportedly maneuvered around all of them.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the crash and they have released a statement regarding their investigation thus far. Albright suffered life-threatening injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The off-duty officer and her father were treated at Riverview Health (Noblesville) and released. The owner of the Toyota was treated at the scene.
