Advisory

Washington Township Partial Re-Opening

The Governor has issued an order allowing tradesmen to work.  However, the Stay at Home order is still largely in effect.
The township intends to open office functions for very LIMITED business related to trades (permits, inspections, planning and zoning inquiries, etc.) since these items relate to trades.  Other functions will continue to be performed remotely including tax and utility collections and elections.  Water bill questions will continue to be handled via phone and email.  Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals meetings will not be scheduled until further notice.
There will be a transition for permit related activities.

  1. We will issue currently approved but previously withheld permits via mail through May 8th
  2. New permit applications, plan reviews, and payment processing for permits will begin again on May 11th.  Inspections will begin May 12th to allow time to arrange scheduling and work through issues.
  3. Enforcement matters will continue to be received via mail and email.
The following procedures will be in effect starting May 11th:
  1. Public Works and Building personnel will wear PPE on job sites and honor social distancing.  Public Works will avoid non-emergency work inside homes when reasonable.
  2. Only those seeking to apply for, pay for, or pick up a permit will be allowed in the building.  Other business will be handled remotely.
  3. Entry to the building will be by appointment only.  Visitors will be required to stop at a desk at the Township entrance to be screened prior to entering.  Screening will involve answering a quick checklist to detect Covid symptoms or exposure and to perform a temperature check.  No entry will be granted to those with Covid symptoms or risk or if the screening is refused.
  4. Only 6 visitors will be allowed in the building at a time.  All visitors must wear masks while in the building.  Those waiting outside must maintain social distancing of 6 feet or more.
  5. No visitors will be allowed to roam the building or come to the staff side of the counter.
  6. Note that masks will be worn by all staff while interacting with the public and social distancing will be maintained.
We recognize the inconveniences associated with these measures and are hopeful that you understand.  If one person on our team becomes contaminated, we might be forced to quarantine all team members, forcing us to cease providing services for a longer period.  Further, we could become a source of contamination to the rest of the community.  We are eager to return the community to work but wish to do so in accordance with the best and most prudent practices.  We will update you as new developments occur.
Please stay positive and stay safe.
