Detectives at the West Covina Police Department are currently investigating a sexual assault case. On March 3, 2020, officers received a call for service regarding a sexual assault that occurred at a residence. Officers arrived and made contact with the victim, a 10-year-old female. They learned the suspect, identified as David Diaz; a 68-year-old resident of West Covina, was the victim's foster parent. Given the circumstances, the suspect was taken into custody pending further investigation. Detectives were notified and arrived to assist with the investigation. Through their follow-up, they learned the suspect has been a foster parent for the past 18 years.
Believing there may be other victims, the West Covina Police Department is asking for assistance from the public. Anyone with information is asked to call the West Covina Police Department tip line at 626-939-8688. You can remain anonymous by calling the hotline and leaving a message.
The case was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office Pomona Superior Court. The charges filed against David Diaz were 289(a)(1) PC (Sexual Assault by Force) and 288 PC (Sexual Perversion with Child under 14). David Diaz remains in custody at the Los Angeles Sheriff’s County jail awaiting his court hearing. His bail is currently set at $1,250,000.00.
