Normal parking enforcement to resume Friday
With the expiration of Kansas City’s COVID-19 Stay at Home order at 12:01 a.m. May 15, KCPD will resume normal parking enforcement.
During the course of the order, parking control officers temporarily ignoring time-limited zones (e.g. those marked "30-minute parking" or "2-hour parking") and parking meters.
The reduced enforcement was evident in the decline in the number of citations issued. In March, police issued 2,702 parking citations compared to just 359 in April. (The city-wide Stay at Home order went into effect March 24.)
During the stay-home period, parking enforcement instead focused on safety-related violations, including blocked intersections, blocked fire hydrants, blocked driveways and handicapped parking. Although traffic was lighter, parking control officers continued to enforce parking in marked rush hour traffic zones to keep traffic flowing safely from 7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m.
Residents and visitors should be aware that KCPD will resume enforcing all parking ordinances – including those in time-limited zones and at parking meters – May 15. All drivers should be prepared to abide by existing parking restrictions.
