Crime Bulletin for the week of May 4-10

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Notable Cases

On Monday, 05-04-20 at 3:02 p.m., Officer Reininger was dispatched to 2100 Junipero Serra Boulevard on a report of a possible assault and battery. The reporting party said his boss had just assaulted him and left towards the “south garage” on foot. Officer Reininger spoke with the 50-year old victim who was bleeding from his nose and face due to a laceration on the right side of his nose/orbital bone area, a large hematoma on his forehead, and swelling to his upper lip area. The victim said he was at work, and as he passed his boss, his arm brushed up against him. The victim said his boss turned towards him and pushed him with both hands, causing him to fall to the ground and into a desk. The victim said he stood up, and an argument ensued. The victim said he went to the phone and said he was going to call the police. He said the suspect then punched him in the face twice with a closed fist. Daly City Fire Department personnel evaluated the victim and transported him to the hospital. The suspect, a 49-year old Manteca resident, was not on the scene at the time. The officer made arrangements to speak with the suspect in person, but the suspect failed to come into the station to give his statement. A complaint will be sent to the District Attorney's Office.

On Tuesday, 05-05-20 at 12:22 p.m., Officer Mulitaoupele and Officer Digiacomo were dispatched to an apartment at 500 King Drive on a report of a disturbance involving a mother who said her son assaulted her with an open hand. When the officers arrived, they saw the son outside the apartment and asked if there was a problem. The 16-year old son said it was a family problem, and he didn’t want to talk about it. The officers spoke with the 32-year old mother who said on the past Saturday, she noticed her son was not at home, and her car was gone. Later that evening, her son returned home with her car that was now heavily damaged and not drivable. The mother said she took her son’s cellphone away as punishment. The mother said on this day, her son came to her room asking to use her cellphone. The victim refused, and she said her son kept asking and said if she did not give him the phone, he would start breaking things—like he did with her car. The victim said she again refused, and her son knocked over her 55” flat screen television that landed on her 8-year old daughter. The victim said she pushed her son into the hallway, and her son pushed her to the floor and took her phone. The victim asked for the phone back, and her son threatened to hit her. The officers asked the victim if she wanted her son to be arrested, and she said yes. The son was arrested for robbery, grand theft and committing an adult offense by a juvenile and was transported to the San Mateo Youth Guidance Center. Both the victim and the 8-year old daughter did not suffer any physical injuries.

On Friday, 05-08-20 at 7:00 p.m., Officer Gil was dispatched to the 100 block of Blossom Court on a report of a suspected hit and run. Police Assistant Waterman advised the officer that the incident was over a stolen motorcycle and the suspect was no longer on the scene, but the motorcycle was now on the 900 block of East Market Street. Officer Gill arrived and spoke with the victim, a 24-year old Daly City resident. The victim said he had listed his 2017 Yamaha R6 motorcycle for sale on a website called “Offer Up”. The victim said he received a text message from a subject who wanted to meet at the Taco Bell on Mission Street. The victim said he met the potential buyer, who after meeting him, ran to the motorcycle, mounted it and sped off without paying for it. The victim had a car parked in the lot so he would have a ride home after the transaction, and he decided to chase the suspect. The victim said the suspect sped towards East Market Street, and he was able to catch up to the suspect. The victim said the suspect dismounted the motorcycle, causing it to fall, and he ran towards Orange Court. The victim said he exited his vehicle and continued to chase the suspect on foot until he lost sight of him.

On Saturday, 05-09-20 at 10:54 p.m., Officer Chow and other officers were dispatched to the unit block of Wakefield Avenue on a report of three subjects fighting. Two subjects, 19 and 31-year old Daly City residents, were the victims of an assault and battery via a knife by a 25-year old Daly City resident. The 31-year old victim sustained a superficial laceration to his face. The suspect was arrested, and he was additionally charged with bringing prescription pills into a jail facility after jail staff discovered the contraband in the subject’s buttocks.

On Sunday, 05-10-20 at 11:59 p.m., Officer Mendiara was dispatched to the 300 block of 89th Street on a report of a black Honda Civic that hit several parked cars and was abandoned in the middle of the street. Officer Mendiara arrived to find the Honda with severe damage to the front bumper and both air bags deployed. Two nearby vehicles were struck by the Honda and suffered damages due to the collision. As Officer Mendiara was surveying the scene, he saw as subject lying motionless on his back under one of the nearby vehicles. A Spanish speaking officer from Broadmoor arrived to assist, and the subject began crying and speaking in Spanish. The officers lifted the subject to his feet, but he was unable to stand unassisted. Officer Mendiara subsequently arrested the suspect, a 26-year old San Francisco resident, for driving under the influence of alcohol and for hit and run. The subject had to be transported to San Francisco General Hospital for his severe intoxication.

On Friday, 05-08-20 at 12:54 a.m., Officer Wagnon, Officer Lajoie and Officer Mahan were dispatched to a residence on the unit block of Penhurst Avenue on a report of a home invasion robbery that had occurred 15 minutes prior. The officers arrived and conducted a protective sweep of the property and spoke with the three victims. The victims, ranging from 34 to 54 years old, were asleep when they were awakened by two suspects who entered the residence via the back sliding glass door. The 34-year old male victim said he and his girlfriend were asleep when a male subject carrying a black pistol in his hand started yelling, “Where’s the money? Where’s the money?” The victim said his girlfriend dialed 9-1-1 while she was under the sheets. The victim said the suspect ripped the bedsheets off and struck the victim’s shin with the pistol and yelled for the money once again. Prior to them being robbed, the second suspect went into the mother-in-law’s bedroom and pointed a gun at the 54-year old mother-in-law’s head and demanded money. The victim could not understand what the male was saying, as she did not speak English. The victim grabbed $2,000 from her wallet, and the suspect shuffled through the victim’s dresser drawers and found another $2,000. The victim described that suspect a fat Hispanic or Filipino male wearing all black, white sneakers, black hat and a black ski mask with a yellow pattern over it. This investigation is continuing.
