First Selectman’s Update

Gradual Reopening Begins

Westport, CT – First Selectman Jim Marpe provided the following updates today:

ReOpen Westport Advisory Team:

Today the gradual reopening of the Westport business community begins. The ReOpen Westport Advisory Team has been working closely with the business segments that are part of the State of Connecticut's Phase 1 Plan which includes offices, retailers and restaurants (outside dining only). These businesses have been reimagining their physical space to accommodate for the social distancing and cleaning requirements of today's COVID-19 reality. They are eager to serve the Westport community again, with the safety and health of their employees and customers as the priority.

Second Selectwoman Jennifer Tooker states, "We have some of the most creative and adaptive local business owners in Westport. They understand how important this gradual reopening is for the community and the economy. We are working together, under the State's guidance and rules, to reopen safely and carefully. We want to build confidence throughout the community that we can do business and stay healthy. We look forward to the weeks ahead as we continue on this journey together."

Please check directly with the local business as many of them have new operating hours and appointment or booking procedures.

Town Offices:

Town Facilities will be following the Governor’s guidance on office spaces and will remain closed to the public, but fully operational. Town staff are working on site with staggered shifts and alternating remote work to provide all town services to the public. Appointments are being accepted for complex matters. Staff is doing its best to answer incoming phone calls, and are trying to return all voicemails and emails within 24 hours. Please utilize the town’s website for a staff directory, or visit departmental pages for specific instructions on how to conduct business with each department. As always, if you are unsure of department services, consider utilizing the search field on our website to determine which department may be able to answer your specific inquiry.

Tax Relief Reminder:

The deadline to submit the application for COVID-19 Tax relief, as approved by the Representative Town Meeting, for the April 1, 2020 tax payment is this Friday, May 22. The deadline for the July payment is July 1, 2020. www.westportct.gov/TaxRelief.

Recognizing EMS Week:

In recognition of their commitment to serve, First Selectman Marpe issued a Proclamation honoring EMS Week in Westport. Mr. Marpe stated, “EMS practitioners are professionals of the highest caliber; keeping up with the latest training to ensure that they know the most effective life-saving emergency treatments that will benefit us all. As dedicated first responders, Westport’s Volunteer EMS provides immediate care during a health crisis; whether there is an accident or an illness, these trained professionals work around the clock to make sure care is available quickly for all our residents and those in need. We in Westport join those across the nation in honoring the valuable and vital contributions that EMS practitioners provide each and every day. With gratitude and appreciation, we express our deepest thanks for all our EMS professionals do for our community.”
