Crime Alert Bulletin for May 11-17, 2020

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Notable Cases

On Tuesday, 05-12-20 at 1:20 p.m., Officer Aquila and Officer Douglas were dispatched to an apartment on the 200 block of Cerro Drive on a welfare check. The reporting party heard yelling and slapping sounds coming from within the apartment and was concerned as he knew there was a male with Down Syndrome who lived in the apartment. The officers arrived and spoke with a 21-year old resident who took care of her 18-year old brother with Down Syndrome who requires around-the-clock care. The officers determined that the 21-year old sister slapped her brother in the face and used a belt to hit his buttocks and thighs. The victim was placed into the care of another relative, and a complaint against the suspect is filed with the District Attorney's Office. Adult Protective Services was notified, and they will be conducting a follow-up with the family.

On Tuesday, 05-12-20 at 7:56 p.m., a 65-year old Daly City resident was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and hit and run after he hit a parked car near Westlake Avenue and Mission Street. A witness saw the subject hit the car and called the police.

On Wednesday, 05-13-20 at 2:30 p.m., Officer Herrera was dispatched to the 200 block of 89th Street on a report of a male subject with a syringe in his arm. Officer Herrera saw blood on the subject’s arm and asked why he was bleeding. The subject, a 61-year old San Francisco resident, told the officer he “shot up” and pointed to a bush where the syringe was. Officer Digiacomo arrived to assist and found the syringe that was full of blood. The subject admitted to shooting up methamphetamine. Officer Herrera issued the subject a citation for possession of a controlled substance.

On Friday, 05-15-20 at 11:21 a.m., Officer Perez and Officer Farrar were dispatched to the area of the Sun Valley Dairy on Schwerin Street on a report of a female inside of her vehicle yelling for help. The dispatcher told the officers that the call was actually a just-occurred armed robbery involving three subjects who had fled the scene in a silver minivan. The reporting party/victim told the officers he was a money collector for the ATM’s at the store and that he had just finished replenishing money inside the machine. The 55-year old victim said he was just getting back into his vehicle when a silver minivan blocked the exit to the parking lot, and three subjects got out of their vehicle and approached his vehicle. The victim said he tried to pull the door closed when one of the subjects produced a handgun, pointed it at his head and said, “Give me the money.” The victim said another subject, holding a semi-automatic pistol, walked to the front of the car. The other suspect went around to the rear of the victim’s car and approached the passenger side area where the victim’s wife was seated. The victim said the subject grabbed him by the shirt, pulled him out of the vehicle, moved him to the rear passenger door and once again pointed the gun to his head and demanded money. The victim said the subject who was next to his wife opened the door and hit her on the head. The victim gave the suspects the money, and the suspects fled. The victim described the three subjects as all being black males between 25-35 years old, 6’0 or 6’2 and wearing black. This investigation is continuing.

On Sunday, 05-17-20 at 12:18 a.m., a 36-year old Daly City resident was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol after he was involved in a traffic collision with a Daly City Police Department patrol vehicle. This occurred at the intersection of Mission Street and Parkview Avenue.

Nextdoor.com

Nextdoor.com is a free private social networking website for your neighborhood. This private network ensures that only those who live in your neighborhood can join; users must go through a verification process. Neighbors ask each other for business recommendations; help in locating missing pets; discuss relevant local government issues; or connect for other reasons. It is very easy to sign up. I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access to a neighborhood if they don’t live there. Please note: The City of Daly City and/or the Police Department cannot see what residents post—we are only allowed to post information. There is also a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your e-mail. Give it a try! www.nextdoor.com
