Municipal Parking Lots Gradual Re-Opening Over Memorial Day Weekend
Due to the dramatically increased demand for parking in downtown Sausalito during Phase II of the Public Health Order (PHO), the City of Sausalito has decided to gradually re-open the municipal parking lots in an effort to reduce congestion in the downtown corridor. Municipal Lots 1 and 2 will remain open all weekend. Lots 3 and 4 will be remain closed and will open if the demand for parking dictates the need. This will be evaluated regularly throughout the holiday weekend.
Similar to the last few weekends of Municipal Lot closures, those residents, downtown merchants, and their employees who are displaced by the closure should park in metered spaces on the street with their parking permits displayed on the rear bumper or their parking card displayed on the vehicle’s dashboard.
The Sausalito Police Department wants to make sure that you park legally when you are shopping at a curbside retailer. “Curbside pick-up” does not necessarily mean you can literally pull up to the curb of your favorite local business. Citations will be issued for those parked illegally in red zones, blocking crosswalks and all other hazardous violations. Green and Yellow zones are available for those wanting to make a quick pick-up but those spots will be monitored for time parked in the space.
Effective Saturday May 23rd, 2020 hourly parking rates in downtown Sausalito will change at street meters and in municipal parking lots. Per Resolution No. 5731 (07/31/2018) these changes will remain in effect until September 30, 2020. This increase was set to take place May 1, 2020 but was postponed due to the Public Health Order.
Hourly Rate Changes Effective May 23, 2020:
Off-street Municipal “pre-pay” Parking Lots #1-4:
*All hourly rates will increase by $1.00 per hour
*All daily maximums / all-day parking rates will increase
*All hours of operation will be set at 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
*“Commuter” parking program daily costs will not increase
On-street Parking Meters:
*Rates at meters located in the downtown core area are $3.00 per hour
*Rates at meters adjacent to the downtown core area are $2.50 per hour
*Rates at meters outside of the downtown core area will not change
(The downtown core area is defined as the public areas between 539 Bridgeway and 833 Bridgeway, and portions of adjacent cross-streets.)
This weekend you will see uniformed Ambassadors from Sausalito Bike Return (SBR) stationed downtown in two different locations. Their mission is to remind and educate people of the Public Health Order requirements while in Sausalito.
Please remember that the PHO in each county will vary. If you travel from one county to another you are required to operate under the PHO of the county that you are in.
The Sausalito Police Department will cite for non-essential travel and safe-distancing violations. Violators will no longer be warned but instead will be issued citations that carry a fine of $500.00.
Complying with public health orders can help keep everyone safe. We can all do our part to limit the spread of COVID-19 by sheltering at home as much as possible and wearing face coverings when we are out in public. Stay close to your own neighborhood for fresh air and sunshine, and only use your car for essential activities, such as grocery shopping.
