MESSAGE TO THE COMMUNITY FROM TOWN MANAGER JOE CALABRIGO
Good afternoon,
As we are now two months into the Shelter in Place Order, I want to take a moment to thank everyone for their patience, and willingness to work collectively to live by the guidelines mandated by the County Health Services Officer as a means to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and safeguard our residents.
Thanks to these efforts, the state and the county have begun to relax the restrictions placed on us, and we are preparing for further reopening that will allow our economy to begin to recover.
As we go into the Memorial Day weekend and kick off the start of summer, I ask that we continue to exercise caution and common sense as we go about our daily activities. One example involves the need to avoid mass gatherings, as these types of activities pose the single greatest risk for transmitting COVID-19. In Danville, we enjoy community events that draw people together. But at least for this year, it’s essential that these be avoided.
With that thought in mind we ask that our community not promote or participate in rallies, gatherings, and events that work against this process.
We are aware of the Sunday car parades through the downtown. And while these are allowed for under the SIP order, the increasingly large groups of people lining the roads in violation of the order are not. Another observed trend involves groups ordering food to go from our area restaurants, and then eating their meals on the patios of those restaurants. This goes against what is intended by the SIP. Please continue to support our many great restaurants…but for now, please take your food home.
Your Town Council and staff are engaged with the county, providing local feedback and highlighting the progress being made. We understand that our community is ready for a return to normalcy, and our businesses are ready and waiting for the day when they can welcome customers back. With all the progress that’s been made, we don’t want to act in ways that could set back all of our efforts.
You have all shown an extraordinary amount of patience and support in getting us to this point. We are asking that you continue to demonstrate that patience as we work to reopen our Town. Support your local businesses by shopping online, using curbside pickup, and ordering food to go. For those wanting to cruise Hartz Avenue on Sundays, please stay in your vehicles, don’t gather to chat, and keep the event as safe as possible.
We will get through this, and we will begin the recovery process. Until then, let’s continue our collective efforts in working together to maintain the safety of our community.
Thank You,
Joe Calabrigo
