Stay at Home Order, Memorial Day Weekend and Barbecue Season Kickoff
As we remember and honor the men and women who have died serving in the armed forces this Memorial Day Weekend, the Department of Public Safety would like to remind residents that the stay at home order is still in effect until June 12th.
However, Governor Whitmer has allowed for gatherings of 10 or less with social distancing to take place. All Harper Woods Parks will be open, but pavilions will remain closed for use until further notice.
The Governor has required that masks be worn in enclosed spaces, as such, the Public Safety Department has observed that residents or visitors to the city continue to discard used gloves and masks throughout the city. Besides littering, this is an obvious public health concern. Please discard used gloves and masks in an appropriate trash receptacle. The fine for littering is $325.00 plus court costs. WE WILL issue without warning.
Barbecue Season Kickoff
Please follow the below tips to make sure your barbecue experience remains enjoyable:
Propane Grills
Propane and charcoal BBQ grills should only be used outdoors.
The grill should be placed well away from the home, deck railings and out from under eaves and overhanging branches.
Keep children and pets at least three feet away from the grill area.
Keep your grill clean by removing grease or fat buildup from the grills and in trays below the grill.
Never leave your grill unattended.
Always make sure your gas grill lid is open before lighting it.
CHARCOAL GRILLS
There are several ways to get the charcoal ready to use. Charcoal chimney starters allow you to start the charcoal using newspaper as a fuel.
If you use a starter fluid, use only charcoal starter fluid. Never add charcoal fluid or any other flammable liquids to the fire.
Keep charcoal fluid out of the reach of children and away from heat sources.
There are also electric charcoal starters, which do not use fire. Be sure to use an extension cord for outdoor use.
When you are finished grilling, let the coals completely cool before disposing in a metal container
Have a Safe and Healthy Memorial Day Weekend.
