Two Vehicle Crash

Sheriff Richard J. Behnke reports that deputies from the Cass County Sheriff's Office investigated personal injury crash which occurred on 05-24-2020 at approx. 1100 Hrs. This crash happened in the intersection of M-51 and Dewey Lake, Silver Creek Twp., Cass County, Michigan. Initial investigation shows that a west bound vehicle on Dewey Lake Rd. failed to yield to traffic on M-51 and crashed into a south bound vehicle. The southbound vehicle was driven by 76 year old Dowagiac resident, Kenneth Richard Hornburg. The west bound vehicle was driven by Jessica L Giffey, 23 year old Monee, IL resident. Giffey had a passenger in her vehicle, Maximiliano Cortez, 25 year old Chicago resident, who was transported to Lakeland St. Joseph for injuries sustained in the accident. Seatbelts were worn at the time of the accident.

Alcohol/Drugs do not appear to be a factor in this crash. Assisting Agencies at the scene were Dowagiac Police Department, Sister Lakes Fire department, VBEMS and Pridecare Ambulance.
