Mayor Stampone's COVID-19 Local Update

An Announcement from the Office of the Mayor

Coronavirus COVID-19 Local Update

May 27, 2020

Our Haledon Community:

I hope you and your loved ones enjoyed your Memorial Day weekend. We are grateful for the brave men and women in uniform who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. As of this writing, there
have been 315 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Haledon and 15,826 confirmed cases throughout Passaic County. Haledon currently remains at 11 deaths related to complications of COVID-19, which has been confirmed by the Passaic County Health Department. The ages and genders of the neighbors we have sadly lost are as follows: 57 year old male; 58 year old male; 83 year old female; 89 year old female; 39 year old male; 76 year old male; 73 year old female; 20 year old male; 44 year old male; and 60 year old female. I extend my sincerest condolences to everyone affected by this pandemic. Please be advised that New Jersey has over 153,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19. I would also like to bring the following to your attention:

-Our health officials are seeking medical professionals to assist with COVID-19 Contact Tracing. If you are interested, please contact Haledon Board of Health Secretary Nebojsa "Vic" Zlatanovic, Esq., at (973) 595-7766 Extension 111 and/or [email protected];

-Google and Apple have launched a digital contact tracing system in an effort to defeat COVID-19. After an individual downloads and enables a contact tracing application on his phone, he would subsequently receive an alert if he is exposed to anyone who is diagnosed with or likely to have COVID-19. Of course, that assumes that the COVID-19-positive individual also has the application enabled on his phone. The companies said that digital contact tracing is meant to augment traditional human-to-human tracing, not replace it;

-The Passaic County Health Department continues to administer COVID-19 daily testing, generally Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, 9:00AM to 12:00PM, in Lot 6 of William Paterson University. During inclement weather, the testing site is generally closed. Although you must be a Passaic County resident, you no longer need a prescription to be tested;

-The Governor signed Executive Order 148, increasing the limit on outdoor gatherings from 10 to 25 people and allowing recreational campgrounds to reopen with social distancing measures in place. The limit on indoor gatherings remains at 10 people. Outdoor gatherings limit capacity to no more than 25 people at all time and require attendees to be six feet apart at all times, excluding immediate family members, caretakers, household members, or romantic partners;

-Please be reminded that the Governor also signed Executive Order 142, permitting resumption of non-essential construction, curbside pickup at non-essential retail businesses, and gatherings in cars. The Governor also issued Executive Order 149 allowing beaches, boardwalks, lakes, and lakeshores to remain open with social distancing measures in place;

-If you believe an employer, organization, or entity is violating any Executive Order and/or COVID-19 restrictions, please be advised that you may report any violations directly to the State at https://covid19.nj.gov/forms/violation;

-Please be reminded of the Governor’s Executive Order mandating all residents to wear masks in grocery stores as COVID-19 cases and deaths continue to climb. To lessen overcrowding, all “essential retail” stores will only be permitted to allow up to 50 percent of their approved capacity inside. All customers and employees will be required to wear face coverings while inside the store, and businesses must supply employees with masks, coverings and gloves; and

-The community is urged to properly dispose their gloves, masks, or any other personal protective equipment. Regardless, someone still has to pick them up and be exposed to unwanted germs. The Haledon Police Department will be strongly enforcing littering
violations.

Again, we implore you to remain home and only travel for a legitimate, essential purpose. The practice of physical, social distancing continues to be paramount. For any updates, please visit our borough
