The City of Nelsonville is rolling out a new way to use your mobile phone’s text messaging to report non-emergency issues and find answers to your questions 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

All you have to do is text “Hi” to 740-265-3858 to get started, and a series of texts will guide you through the reporting process.

The new “TextMyGov” service, which is already in operation, will allow residents to quickly report non-emergency issues such as a street light problem, a pothole, discarded trash, or a road problem and even upload a photo if desired.

The system also allows users to search for contact information for key city officials.

“It’s an easy way for people to report simple actions to us,” Acting City Manager Scott Frank said. “Texting is very efficient and probably preferred by some citizens. For us internally, the citizen’s message is converted into a service request that is more easily managed by our staff.”

To report a complex issue, however, Scott recommends that residents still call the office at 740-753-1314 Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. You may leave a voice mail after regular business hours.
