BTPD informs public of bear sightings.
Today the Bordentown Township Police Department responded to several sightings of a black bear in the wooded area adjacent to Rt. 206 northbound near the NJ Turnpike access ramp. Our animal control unit believes this is the same bear that was observed in Robbinsville Township and Crosswicks yesterday and does not feel it poses a threat to residents. We do make the following suggestions until the bear is out of our area:
Don't fill your bird feeders or leave food for outside animals, tidy up your garden, keep trash cans secure… remove the food source thereby eliminating a reason for the bear to linger.
There is no need to follow, chase or monitor the bear in anyway.
If the bear stays in one location for an extended period or is becoming a nuisance then contact us and we will coordinate with the NJDEP Division of Fish & Wildlife.
