Fatal Shooting on Butterfield Overpass
On Friday 5/29/20, at approximately 2:14 pm, Morgan Hill Police were dispatched to the area of Butterfield Blvd overpass on reports of a possible shooting. Upon arrival, Officers located an occupied vehicle stopped in the roadway. The male driver was unresponsive and had sustained a gunshot wound. The female passenger was not shot but sustained minor injuries. MHPD patrol officers initiated medical aid to the victim and secured the scene. MHFD and EMS personnel responded and transported the victims to the hospital. The male driver sustained a life-threatening head wound and the female passenger sustained minor injuries. MHPD Detectives were called out and are actively investigating the shooting. The driver of the vehicle was later pronounced dead at the hospital. The identity of the male driver is not being released until family members are notified.
During the investigation, it was determined the victim vehicle was traveling northbound on Butterfield Blvd from Monterey Rd. The suspect vehicle pulled alongside the victim vehicle and fired multiple shots striking it several times. The victim vehicle traveled a short distance and came to rest in the roadway south of Fisher Ave. The suspect vehicle is believed to be a silver colored sedan occupied by multiple subjects. The suspect vehicle was last seen traveling north on Butterfield Blvd at a high rate of speed.
