In the past couple of days I have received numerous questions about how the Sebastopol Police Department deals with and responds to issues and violations of the Sonoma County Health Order. I want everyone in the Sebastopol community to know that the police department has not changed how we deal with the Health Order. I have directed the department to use a three-stage approach. First, education. Second, warnings coupled with education. Third, and only if necessary, enforcement.

After 18 years with Sebastopol Police Services, I can say with absolute confidence that I speak not only for myself but for the entire department in saying that the safety, welfare and well-being of our fellow community members are our number one concern.

This pandemic has had a cost to everyone in the community to some degree. I want to send out my heartfelt sympathy to anyone who has lost a loved one or friend. I know this crisis has created huge financial difficulties for members of the public and local businesses. The police department does not want to add to those costs. This community has survived numerous tragedies and always comes out stronger. Together we can work together, help everyone stay safe and come through this crisis as soon as possible. Stay strong, reach out to family and friends for support, and know the police department is here for you.
