Dear El Segundo Community,

 
In response to the civil unrest occurring in nearby Los Angeles and throughout southern California, the El Segundo Police Department is closely monitoring the events in Downtown LA, Fairfax District, and other locations.  While we support the right to protest peacefully, we do not condone the illegal and hurtful behavior now occurring.  There is no immediate threat to the El Segundo community; however, please know that we have sufficient staffing and plans in place to keep you safe at all times.
 

Like all of you, I am extremely disturbed and saddened by the death of George Floyd in Minnesota.  All of us struggle to make sense of what we saw on the video.  The El Segundo Police Department fosters an environment of inclusivity and biased-free policing.  We believe in the sanctity of all human life and our training is based on this fundamental concept.  We train to de-escalate a situation whenever possible and to only use the amount of force necessary to perform our duties.  We will not tolerate in our ranks anyone who does not live up to these standards.  You deserve nothing less.  I am proud of your police officers and their commitment to each of you.
