DANVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT PREPARES FOR POTENTIAL LOOTING

To the Danville Community,

Following the Sunday violence in Walnut Creek and other Bay Area cities, we have taken action to better safeguard our Town. We have brought in additional officers to reinforce our patrols, as well as to monitor various social media platforms for information regarding any future looting actions.

While the organizers of the June 2 protest in downtown Danville have chosen to cancel their event, we will remain vigilant and ready as outside elements intent on violent action are a continuing cause for concern.

To prepare for this potential threat the Danville Police Department is taking several actions. We are in constant communication with our Town Council and Town Staff to make sure we have all available information and to provide them with the information we have.  We are increasing staffing and patrols, monitoring social media and other intelligence sources, and coordinating with local law enforcement so that we can react rapidly to evolving threats. The most important thing to know is that we hold the safety our Danville community as our highest priority, and will take all precautions possible to maintain the safety of our residents and businesses.

What we ask of you, the community, is to stay alert, stay home and stay safe.  If you see something that appears suspicious or threatening, contact us immediately.  Do not engage.  Report what you are seeing and let our officers do what they are trained for.

To our business community I would like to say that we are seeing social media posts calling for similar actions to what happened in Walnut Creek.  There does not appear to be the same level of activity on these threads, but we are continuing to monitor them as a precaution.  However, out of an abundance of caution, I would suggest that if you have the means to secure your property or your inventory that you may wish to do so in the short term.

We will be continuing to put out information when possible, and when doing so does not jeopardize the safety of the community or our officers.  Information will be posted to Nixle, Nextdoor, and the Town of Danville website www.danville.ca.gov.

Be well and stay safe,

Allan Shields
