City of Santa Paula: A Message from the Chief of Police
Interim Chief of Police, lsmael Cordero
As your Chief of Police, I am saddened and disappointed to hear and see the cruel actions taken by police officers against George Floyd. This type of force goes against our principles, what we are all taught beginning in the Police Academy, our department policies and procedures and what we train officers to do.
Police Officers are held to a higher standard and professionalism as they swore an Oath to protect and serve their communities. We hold our officers to this, and anything less will not be tolerated.
We understand this incident has aggravated a distrust of law enforcement country wide; it goes against the values we have instilled in our officers. We will continue to protect and serve our community. We will uphold the law and will continue to hold our officers to a high standard and ensure they are accountable for their actions.
We will strive to rebuild trust that was lost in our community due to another officer's actions. As a community we stand together, all lives matter.
During this time of unrest, we will remain vigilant as we protect our community. We will have additional officers on shift to ensure the safety of our community in light of this unrest. The riots, looting, and destruction of property does not support the cause for justice and will not be tolerated in Santa Paula.
The Santa Paula Police Department offers our condolences and deepest sympathies to the family of George Floyd.
