Video of motorist pepper spraying a protester prompts assault investigation. On the evening of May 31, 2020, Thousand Oaks Police investigators became aware of a video posted to Twitter that captured a motorist pepper spraying a protester. The vehicle license plate was captured in the video. Detectives worked quickly to identify the victim and possible suspect in this incident. Numerous witnesses who were either at the scene when the incident occurred or saw the video on social media came forward with information. A thorough investigation was conducted and probable cause was developed to arrest (S) Amy Atkisson for the pepper spray assault. Atkisson was booked at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility for one count of 22810(g)(1) PC – Unlawful Use of Tear Gas. Atkisson was later released as mandated by the California Judicial Council’s zero bail schedule. Atkisson has a court date of 7/31/2020.
