DATE/TIME: June 1, 2020 / 11:13 PM
INCIDENT: Fatal Traffic Collision
LOCATION: Hesperia Road and Lemon Street, Hesperia, CA
SUMMARY:
On June 1, 2020, at approximately 11:13 PM, deputies from the Hesperia Station, along with rescue personnel from the San Bernardino County Fire Department, responded to the area of Hesperia Road and Lemon Street, in reference to a two-vehicle traffic collision. Deputies arrived on scene and found a blue, Mitsubishi Lancer sedan and a gray, Dodge Ram 1500 truck on the west dirt shoulder of Hesperia Road.
Three of the four occupants inside of the Dodge truck were ejected from the vehicle during the collision. Deputies arrived on scene and found one female adult, one female juvenile and a male adult on the west dirt shoulder of the roadway. An additional female juvenile was located inside of the truck. All four individuals were pronounced deceased at the scene. The San Bernardino County Sheriff Coroner Office identified two of the deceased as Crystal Jewel Harris, 26-year-old female and Kahlil Malik Hooks, 18-year-old male.
The Hesperia Station Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. Preliminary witness statements and evidence located at the scene, indicate the Dodge truck was travelling northbound on Hesperia Road. For reasons still under investigation, the truck crossed over into the southbound lane and collided head-on with the Mitsubishi sedan.
The driver of the Mitsubishi sustained major injuries and was airlifted to a local hospital for treatment. The driver is in critical condition but expected to survive.
The northbound and southbound lanes of Hesperia Road were closed from Lemon Street to Hercules Street until approximately 8:36 p.m. on June 2, 2020 while investigators processed the scene and collected evidence. At this time, alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the collision.
The collision remains under investigation and any witnesses are asked to contact Deputy J. Bray from the Hesperia Station.
