A Message From El Segundo Police Chief Bill Whalen

El Segundo Community,

As your Chief of Police, I want to thank you and express my pride in this community. While other communities were marred with violence, we came together in peace. I saw this first hand, and I want you to know what I saw had an impact on me. What I saw tells me that despite the efforts we have made, we have more work to do. The fact that people in this community feel marginalized and discriminated against is wrong. I am aware of more protests occurring today and tomorrow. We remain committed to supporting your right to peacefully gather both now and in the future.

I know we have a first class police department that value all of you. This is a diverse group of men and women who care deeply. These are people who really understand the real meaning of the badge they wear. All of us want to engage you to pave a new way forward. We will listen and we will hear you. We will collaborate with other City leaders and with you to ensure this is a whole community effort. We will make our great community even better.

As I have said throughout, I am available to any of you who wish to meet me and talk.
