State of Emergency declared for the City of Watervliet!

The City of Watervliet has declared a State of Emergency. The State of Emergency has been declared due to the threat of civil disturbance to the community which compromises the public safety of our community. The State of Emergency will remain in effective until 11:59PM on Monday, June 8th, 2020 unless extended.
A local emergency order is in effect enacting a curfew commencing tonight, June 7th, 2020 at 9:00PM and ending MONDAY, June 8th, 2020. This curfew order may also be extended.
The curfew applies to the entire City of Watervliet.
Citizens should remain in their residence and adhere to the curfew to help protect the safety of our community and yourself. Citizens may still travel to go to work or seek emergency and urgent medical care during the curfew.
The curfew does not apply to police, fire, military personnel, emergency personnel, City and Government officials with valid credentials, or members of the news media authorized in advance by the Acting Chief of Police or their designee.
Failure to obey this order is a criminal offense, punishable by law under the NYS Executive Law.
Additionally, you should expect sudden road closures throughout the City of Watervliet and surrounding areas to include I-787, the Green Island Bridge, and the Congress St (Rt. 2) bridge.
