Santa Cruz Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Damon Gutzwiller was killed in the line of duty. 
It is devasting and heartbreaking to see all the tragedies that have happened over the past few months.
Unfortunately, Saturday, we saw another act of violence that unnecessarily took the life of Santa Cruz Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Damon Gutzwiller and injured another Santa Cruz Sheriff’s Office Deputy and CHP Officer.
Sergeant Damon Gutzwiller was a 14-year veteran who left behind his wife, a young child, and another child on the way. Our deepest condolences to Sergeant Gutzwiller’s family and friends, the Santa Cruz Sheriff’s Office and the community he protected and served. You are in our hearts and we will never forget Sergeant Gutzwiller.
We hope for a quick recovery of the Santa Cruz Sheriff’s Office Deputy and CHP Officer that were injured.
