Mayor's COVID-19 Local Update

An Announcement from the Office of the Mayor

Coronavirus COVID-19 Local Update

June 8, 2020

Our Haledon Community:

As of this writing, there have been 319 confirmed cases of COVID-19. As such, 34% percent of Haledon residents having tested positive for COVID-19. It is apparent that the curve is flattening. For example, since May 26, 2020, 161 residents were tested for COVID-19 and only 4 have tested positive. We must not become complacent. Thus far, we have lost 15 Haledon residents due to complications of COVID-19, which has been confirmed by the Passaic County Health Department. I extend my sincerest condolences to everyone affected by this pandemic. I would also like to bring the following to your attention:

• On June 15, 2020, New Jersey will enter Stage Two of the state’s strategic re-opening and economic restart. In Stage Two, moderate-risk activities restart with social distancing measures. New Jerseyans are encouraged to continue to stay at home for the majority of the time.
•June 15: Child care centers reopen their doors to all clients.
•June 15: Outdoor dining reopens.
•June 15: Non-essential retail stores reopen for indoor shopping.
•June 15: Motor Vehicle Commission agencies reopen for pick-up and drop-off services.
•June 22: Organized sports activities resume.
•June 22: Barbershops and hair salons reopen.
•June 22: Swimming pools reopen.
•June 29: Motor Vehicle Commission restarts road tests and resume issuing licenses/permits.
•July 6: Youth day camps and summer programs can operate.

• Passaic County Board of Chosen Freeholders has partnered with Vault Health to offer FREE Covid-19 testing at home for all of our residents. The physician-ordered, provider-supervised and physician-reported saliva collection test for COVID-19 has the same effectiveness as the swab test. This test is performed under the supervision of a Vault healthcare provider through a video telehealth visit eliminating the risk of person-to-person exposure to the virus. To register for your at-home testing kit, you must first fill out the form below to verify your Passaic County residency. Immediately following your submission, you will receive a link to receive your kit. This is FREE to all Passaic County residents, and health insurance is not required. Please note: This is not an antibody test. This test is designed to determine if you currently are infected with COVID-19 and have the potential to infect others. For more information, please visit https://www.passaiccountynj.org;

• Our health officials continue seeking medical professionals to assist with COVID-19 Contact Tracing. If you are interested, please contact Haledon Board of Health Secretary Nebojsa "Vic" Zlatanovic, Esq., at (973) 595-7766 Extension 111 and/or [email protected];

• The Passaic County Health Department continues to administer COVID-19 daily testing, generally Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, 9:00AM to 12:00PM, in Lot 6 of William Paterson University. During inclement weather, the testing site is generally closed. Although you must be a Passaic County resident, you no longer need a prescription to be tested;

• Please be reminded that the Governor signed Executive Order 148, increasing the limit on outdoor gatherings from 10 to 25 people and allowing recreational campgrounds to reopen with social distancing measures in place. The limit on indoor gatherings remains at 10 people. Outdoor gatherings limit capacity to no more than 25 people at all time and require attendees to be six feet apart at all times, excluding immediate family members, caretakers, household members, or romantic partners. The Governor also signed Executive Order 142, permitting resumption of non-essential construction, curbside pickup at non-essential retail businesses, and gatherings in cars. The Governor also issued Executive Order 149 allowing beaches, boardwalks, lakes, and lakeshores to remain open with social distancing measures in place;

• Please be reminded of the Governor’s Executive Order mandating all residents to wear masks in grocery stores as COVID-19 cases and deaths continue to climb. To lessen overcrowding, all “essential retail” stores will only be permitted to allow up to 50 percent of their approved capacity inside. All customers and employees will be required to wear face coverings while inside the store, and businesses must supply employees with masks, coverings and gloves; and

• The community is still urged to properly dispose their gloves, masks, or any other personal protective equipment. Regardless, someone still has to pick them up and be exposed to unwanted germs. The Haledon Police Department will be strongly enforcing littering violations.

Again, we implore you to remain home and only travel for a legitimate, essential purpose. The practice of physical, social distancing continues to be paramount. For any updates, please visit our borough website, www.haledonboronj.com.
