Advisory

MOFD prescribed burn today 6/9/20.

Firefighters from the Moraga-Orinda Fire District will conduct a prescribed fire project near Happy Valley Road and Sundown Terrace on Tuesday, June 9th, 2020.  The project will begin at approximately 9:00 AM and should be concluded no later than 5:00 PM. The project is intended to reduce the wildfire fuels in the area and reinforce the fuel break behind homes on Sundown Terrace.

Safety is our number one priority. The project is set up within control lines and will be executed according to a strict “go, no go” checklist. The burning is also being coordinated with the Bay Area Air Quality Management District to ensure the size and timing of the fire will minimize smoke impacts on homes and other smoke-sensitive sites in the area. If burning conditions change the project will be rescheduled.

Residents in the Sundown Terrace and Happy Valley Road neighborhoods may see or smell smoke. Closing exterior doors and windows during the burn will help keep smoke from entering homes. Signs cautioning motorists and bicycles of the additional fire equipment traffic and potential for reduced visibility along the roadway will be posted along Happy Valley Rd and on Sundown Terrace. Happy Valley Road from Sundown Terrace to Orinda View Road may be closed for short periods of time for moving fire apparatus and reduced visibility due to smoke impacts on the road.

We will continue to keep local residents informed of any changes in the plan via NextDoor and MOFD’s social media outlets.
