Advisory

Walnut/Diamond Bar Sheriff's Deputies help locate and reunite a missing man with his wife.

Because of Covid-19, citizens were asked to stay home. After over two months of self-isolation, it was such a relief, such a happy feeling, for a couple in Montclair to be able to take a bus ride to the mall.

Unfortunately, that happy feeling turned to a time of woe for a husband and wife on the afternoon of Sunday, June 7th. While traveling on a Foothill Transit Bus to the West Covina Mall, the wife briefly fell asleep. When she awoke in the City of Walnut, she discovered that at some unknown point, her husband had exited the bus. She contacted the Walnut/Diamond Bar Sheriff’s Station to explain what had happened. She informed us that her husband suffers from dementia, thus creating a “critical missing person” situation.

Coordinating with Foothill Transit and utilizing all available resources, deputies began a search for the missing man. After about an hour, deputies received information that the missing man had boarded a bus traveling in the opposite direction. The deputies responded to the transit terminal and waited for the arrival of that particular bus.

As it turned out, the missing man had exited the bus he was riding with his wife and boarded an eastbound bus to go home. The deputies reunited the man and his wife and drove them safely back home. All in all a pretty exciting day, even if they didn’t make it to the mall.
