Northfield Twp Police handled 305 calls for service this month

05/03/2020 *Internet Threats/Harassment
500 Block of Garnett Circle – A complainant reported that she received an internet suggestive threat from a known subject who does not live in Michigan. Safety options were discussed and the complainant blocked internet contact with the subject.

05/03/2020 *Malicious Destruction of Property
8300 Block of Main St – A complainant reported that renters moved out abruptly, but prior to moving out caused damage to the property. An Officer observed the damage and the case has been forwarded to the prosecutors for review.

05/07/2020 * Violation of Executive Order
1100 Block of 6 Mile - –Officers responded to remind the business of the Governor’s Executive Order for their operation. Officers warned that if the operations did not change, and the business did not follow the order, an enforcement violation (ticket) would be issued.

05/08/2020 *Hit & Run
9800 Block of Main St –Marathon Gas Station – The clerk reported that at 8:45 pm, a blond female driver drove into a gas pump knocking the pump over. The investigation revealed the vehicle involved was a Dark Blue Chevy Cobalt. If anyone has information regarding this incident, they are asked to contact the Northfield Twp Police.

05/08/2020 *Arrest – Operating While Intoxicated –Hit & Run Crash
East Shore & 7 Mile – Officers responded to a hit and run. The investigation revealed damage to a utility pole. Officers were able to locate the vehicle and driver involved. During contact with the driver, Officers recognized signs of possible intoxication. After evaluating the driver through sobriety tasks, the suspect was arrested and his vehicle impounded. The suspect was taken to U of M for medical clearance and a blood draw. The case remains open pending the lab results.

05/13/2020 *Arrest-Operating While Intoxicated
U.S 23 & North Territorial- Officers made a traffic stop for several driving violations and unsafe driving. Upon stopping the vehicle, Officers observed an open bottle of alcohol and signs of intoxication. After evaluating the driver through sobriety tasks the driver was placed under arrest and his vehicle was impounded. A blood draw was administered and the case remains open pending the lab results.

05/14/2020 *Fraud
Glenmore – A complainant reported someone had attempted to use her Social Security number to collect unemployment benefits. Although the claim was denied, the Officer advised the complainant to monitor her bank accounts and credit card statements. No monetary losses had occurred.

05/14/2020 *Fraud
Seven Mile Rd – A complainant reported that a possible known subject had unsuccessfully attempted to open accounts using the victim’s personal information. An Officer contacted the caretaker for the subject and educated them of the criminal charges the subject could be facing. No monetary losses had occurred. The complainant was provided information on identity theft and recommended to monitor all finances.

05/19/2020 *Driving While License Suspended
Main & East Shore – After observing a speeding traffic violation Officers conducted a traffic stop and discovered that the driver had no Michigan driver’s license and a suspended out of state license. The driver was issued a criminal Misdemeanor citation with a mandatory court date.

05/20/2020 *Property Damage
7900 Block of Turnberry – A homeowner reported that he believes a utility vehicle drove across his property to access a utility electrical box and caused damage to his lawn. No witnesses were available.

05/21/2020 *Attempt Retail Fraud (theft from a store)
6800 Block of Whitmore Lake – An employee reported that a patron of the store was attempting to remove the anti theft tag from a pair of boots when an employee confronted the suspect, who immediately ran from the business, leaving the bots behind. The employee followed the subject who left in a unknown truck. The employee was able to obtain a license plate, however the plate had previously been stolen.

05/22/2020 *Fraud
Barker Rd – A victim reported that she received an email offer to use her vehicle to advertise businesses. The victim clicked on the link and completed the application, soon she received a promised check to purchase the signs. After depositing the check, the bank notified her that it was a fraudulent check, and that the victim’s account had been depleted. The victim was advised to contact the credit bureaus and the case remains under investigation.

***Never click on an unsolicited link offering you easy money & never send money orders to start up a money making endeavor. Again, be cautious of checks that are sent your way to begin a start up offer, legitimate business would send you the necessary supplies.

05/23/2020 *Retail Fraud
300 Block of 6 Mile – A store employee reported that a male suspect grabbed a product and ran out of the store. No further information was available at the time of the report.

05/23/202 *Assist Citizen – Suspicious Situation
8 Mile & U.S. 23 - Officers on patrol at 1:45 am, observed an incoherent 35 year old female. The investigation determined the subject needed medical attention and the subject was transported by HVA to a local hospital for treatment and evaluation.

05/26/2020 *Unauthorized Use of an Automobile
A complainant reported that her vehicle was taken without permission and was involved in an accident. The complainant believes that the vehicle was taken by a known acquaintance and that there was no intent to permanently keep the vehicle. No prosecution was desired.

05/26/2020 *Animal Complaint –Citation Issued
Lakeshore Dr – An officer responded to a report of one dog being attacked by another – The investigation revealed that additional complaints had been made against the attacking dog and the resident harboring the dog was issued a ticket.

05/30/2020 *Larceny
7800 Block of Shady Beach – A victim reported that he last saw his two kayaks on Monday 05/25/2020, but discovered them missing on 05/30/2020. The kayaks are described as a yellow Sun dolphin and a Sun Dolphin fishing kayak. In addition, a unknown make green kayak was taken from his neighbor. The kayaks have been recovered.

Even as things begin to open up regarding the Coronavirus, Scam artists are still attempting to fraudulently take advantage of people.
Beware of :
Medicare scams where fraudulent representative call to request personal information, after offering Covid-19 kits, packages or benefits. Never provide personal information to an unsolicited caller - the government has your information.
