Crime Alert Bulletin

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Notable Cases

On Thursday, 06-04-20 at 8:04 p.m., Officer Aquila was dispatched to the 3100 block of Geneva Avenue on report of a carjacking. The incident occurred on the 500 block of Talbert Street. The 30-year old victim said he parked his 2009 Dodge Challenger and left the vehicle unlocked with the engine running. He and his wife exited the vehicle and went to move another vehicle. The victim saw a blue Honda drive by and went around the block. The victim said the vehicle returned, and he saw a subject get out of the passenger seat and run to get into his vehicle. The victim said he ran up to the vehicle and yelled at the suspect to get out of the vehicle. The victim said it appeared the suspect could not drive a manual transmission and fled when he was confronted. The victim described the subjects as a light-skinned Hispanic or Polynesian male in his late teens to early 20’s, approximately 5’6”, slender build, short black hair, wearing a bandana on his face, a black tee-shirt, blue jeans and gray Nike Air Jordan shoes. This investigation is continuing.

On Saturday, 06-06-20 at 3:30 a.m., Officer Gill had just cleared a call for service on the unit block of Werner Avenue when he noticed a subject with a large fix bladed knife in his right hand standing on the sidewalk. Officer Sunga arrived, and Officer Gill commanded the subject to drop the knife, and the subject complied. The 40-year old transient subject was on active court probation and was subject to being searched. The officers found a fixed blade knife in the left side of the subject’s outer jacket. The subject was cited for carrying a concealed dirk or dagger.

On Saturday, 06-06-20 at 4:20 p.m., Officer Fulmore and Officer Poti contacted a subject outside the 7-Eleven store on 87th Street. The subject had a no-bail felony warrant and admitted to having a gun in his waistband. The officer subsequently arrested the subject, a 41-year old San Francisco resident, for possession of a controlled substance while armed, being a felon in possession of a firearm, transportation of a controlled substance for sales, possession of a controlled substance for sales, committing a felony while on bail, carrying a concealed weapon, being a felon in possession of ammunition, possession of drug paraphernalia, and for the outstanding felony warrant. One of the subject’s acquaintances, a 35-year old San Francisco resident, was cited for possession of a controlled substance. A complaint is sought for the other acquaintance, a 28-year old Daly City resident, for possession of a controlled substance.

Robberies

There were two robberies during the past week.

On Monday, 06-01-20 at 4:01 p.m., Officer Herrera was on patrol on Gellert Boulevard when she saw three male subjects running onto Wembley Drive. As she turned onto Wembley Drive, she saw one male subject holding a knife and pointing it at two male subjects. As the officer was exiting her patrol vehicle, she could see the victim had blood running from his mouth and nose. A witness pointed at two subjects and said, “They did it.” The victim told the officer that he had been jumped by the two subjects at the scene. A witness said there were two additional male subjects in an older white Toyota Camry that were scene driving away from the scene. Sgt. Scholes was in the area and found the vehicle at Callan Boulevard and Hickey Boulevard. He conducted a traffic enforcement stop and ultimately took three subjects into custody. The victim, a 14-year old Daly City resident, said he used Instagram to post a pair of shoes he wanted to sell. A subject messaged him, and they agreed to meet at the 7-Eleven on Serravista Avenue. The victim said he opened the box and showed the subject the shoes. The victim said he asked the subject to show him the money, and he said at that point, three subjects came from behind him, pulled his hood over his face and began punching him in the head and face. The victim said he was punched approximately 10 times. The victim said he chased down the subjects to retrieve his shoes. Four subjects, two 14-year old San Francisco residents, a 15-year old Daly City resident and a 15-year old San Francisco resident, were arrested for robbery, battery, and conspiracy to commit a crime. Two of those subjects were additionally charged with possession of burglary tools. The vehicle was towed.

On Wednesday, 06-03-20 at approximately 7:56 a.m., Officer Tualaulelei was dispatched to the unit block of Forest Grove Drive on a report of a man with a knife who took the reporting party’s bicycle. The dispatchers advised that the subject had a 12” knife and was walking away. The 43-year old victim said he was in his apartment when he heard a noise outside his window. The victim looked outside his window and saw a male subject carrying a knife. The reporting party shouted to the subject, and the subject told the victim that he was going to take the bike. The victim said the subject held up the knife and put it away in his backpack. The victim said he continued to follow the subject onto Forest Grove Drive towards Parkwood Dive when the male subject left the bicycle on a fire hydrant and walked away from it. Scams/Other

“iCloud” Scam

On Monday, 06-01-20 at 4:00 p.m., a 66-year old Daly City resident received a call on her cellphone from a man who said he worked as a Tech employee for Apple Corporation and was calling to inform her that there was a breech to her iCloud account by hackers. The caller told the victim that the hackers gained access to her financial information, and he needed to install a security suite on her computer to remove the hackers. The caller quoted the victim a fee for $2,500 and told her the fee could be paid in $500 denomination Target and Best Buy cards. The caller told the victim that the $2,500 service fee would be refunded with the security suite was installed and her iCloud account had been cleaned of hackers and viruses. The victim said about an hour later, she purchased the cards and, as instructed, provided the numbers on the card to the caller. The victim said the caller provided her with an internet domain to search and instructed her to go to the website and type in a security key he had provided so he could remotely access her computer. The victim said she got on her computer and followed the caller’s instructions. The victim said she began to receive emails from a sender called “Apple Support” who provided her a receipt for payments and told her she would be refunded her money two to three minutes after the security suite was installed. The victim said she did not receive her refund but continued to receive emails from “Apple Support”, showing the progress of the virus clean-up and requesting further payment. The victim said the caller contacted her by text who said she would need to keep submitting payments using the Target and Best Buy cards. The victim said between 06-01-20 and 06-06-20, she kept sending payments—totaling $27,500. The victim finally realized she was the victim of a scam and called us.

As with any of these scammers, the callers are so CONVINCING. Please pass the word along to anyone you know about callers claiming to be from companies such as Apple, PG&E, Social Security, Microsoft and the Internal Revenue Service. None of these companies would ask you for gift cards for payment. I know they are convincing, but it is NOT true!!
