On Tuesday June 09, 2020 at approximately 1:00 a.m. officers from the Harper Woods Department of Public Safety responded to the Parkcrest Inn on the report of numerous shots being fired. Upon arrival, officers were met by several victims who reported they were shot at by the same suspect. The alleged suspect of the shooting, Lewis Nichols, was located in the rear seat of a vehicle parked in the rear parking lot of the Parkcrest Inn and arrested without incident. Nichols is a 27 year old Detroit resident. Officers also recovered a 9mm semi-automatic handgun in the vehicle with Nichols. Evidence was collected from the scene to include (18) 9mm casings. There were no victims that reported being shot during the incident.
On Friday June 12, 2020 Lewis Nichols was arraigned and formally charged in 32-A District Court in front of the Honorable Judge Daniel S. Palmer. Nichols was charged with the following:

(3)-Counts of Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Hard Less Than Murder
3-Counts of Felonious Assault
6-Counts of Weapons-Felony Firearm
(1)-Count of Careless Discharge of a Firearm
(1)-Count of Discharge of a Firearm in or at a Building
(1)-Count of Firearm Possession by a Felon
(1)-Count of Possession of Ammunition by a Felon
(1)-Count of Weapons-Carrying Concealed
Nichols was also given a Habitual Fourth Offense notice due to his prior felony convictions. If convicted, Nichols faces up to life in prison. Nichols has a Preliminary Examination date scheduled for July 01, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. in 32-A District Court. Bond was set at $250,000.00 cash.
