County Releases New Health Order Allowing Pier, Begg Pool and Limited Camps to Re-Open - Press Release:
Manhattan Beach, CA (June 12, 2020) - Effective today, the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Health has issued a revised Public Health Order. Among the businesses and activities now permitted with restrictions are: gyms, fitness facilities, professional sports without live audiences, day camps, museums, galleries, zoos, aquariums, campgrounds, RV parks and music, film and television production. The Public Health Order, as revised, can be found on the Department of Public Health’s website.
“The County of Los Angeles continues on the path toward recovery and I thank the community for their patience during this turbulent time. The City is working closely with the County to advocate for additional re-openings of business sectors and recreation opportunities,” said Mayor Richard Montgomery.
In response to the revised County Order, the City of Manhattan Beach is now permitted to re-open the Manhattan Beach Pier with social distance and face covering restrictions. The City plans to re-open the pier on Monday, June 15, to allow for required signage to be installed and cleaning to take place beforehand.
Additionally, Begg Pool is also permitted to re-open for recreation swim, lap swim and Masters swim beginning June 22. Users will be required to reserve in advance and can begin making reservations on June 15.
REC Summer Camp will also begin Monday, June 15 with modifications to ensure a fun, safe and healthy environment exists for campers and leaders. Additional summer camps, such as Beach Aqualetics and specialized camps are scheduled to begin July 6. Visit www.mbparksandrec.com for more information and to register for camps.
The County has also published a re-opening protocol on public beach use that allows chairs, canopies, and coolers on the beach; however, gatherings of any size and events such as sports, athletic competitions, and beach volleyball remain prohibited. Summer beach and surf camps are permitted but must follow the public health day camp protocols.
Under the revised order, the County of Los Angeles continues to maintain closures on nail salons, tattoo shops, bars and wineries, movie theaters, live performance theaters, entertainment centers, concert halls and venues, stadiums, arenas, gaming facilities, theme parks, and festivals. For a detailed list of what is open and closed, visit the City’s “Recover MB” webpage at www.citymb.info/RecoverMB.
The County continues to monitor the spread of the virus and the healthcare system's capacity to provide residents with essential services. With these re-openings, Los Angeles County will be in Phase 3 of the State’s Resilience Roadmap. However, if at any time, the County’s rate of infection and other key metrics demonstrate a rapid acceleration of new cases that threatens to overwhelm the healthcare system, the County may need to limit future re-openings or close re-opened sectors.
The Order continues to emphasize that physical distancing requirements, face coverings, and other safety protocols must be implemented and observed as the recovery progresses. Specific re-opening protocols may be found on the County Department of Public Health website.
The County of Los Angeles requires face coverings when in close contact around others. Visit the Centers for Disease Control for guidance on how to properly wear and care for your face covering or the LA County Department of Public Health’s guidance.
