Current Initiatives and Updates

  • Manhattan Beach Pier Reopens - Under L.A. County’s amended Public Health Order, the Manhattan Beach pier officially reopened today. Pier visitors are asked to maintain physical distance from non-household members and to wear a cloth face covering when physical distance cannot be maintained.
  • Swim Reservations Now OnlineOnline reservations are now open for lap, family, and Masters swim. Begg Pool will resume a modified schedule and operations starting Monday, June 22.  Swim reservations are required for pool use and are available seven days prior and up to the minute before the scheduled reservation. Beginning Monday, July 6, new operating hours and aquatic programs will be offered. For more information, visit mbparksandrec.com.
  • City Council to Discuss the Street Lighting and Landscaping District Maintenance Assessments and Agreement for Pilot Program for Fundraising Events at the Roundhouse, Tuesday, June 16, 6:00 PM –View the agenda and attachments on the City's website. In the interest of maintaining appropriate social distancing, the City Council encourages the public to participate by using one of the options to submit public comments found on the City's website.
  • Citywide Street Sweeping Resumes Today –The City resumes citywide street sweeping of public streets beginning today. To allow residents time to adjust to the resumption of service, a two-week grace period will be provided before street sweeping parking restrictions will be enforced. Tickets for all parking violations will be issued beginning Monday, June 29. Residents should comply with the posted parking signs.

  • Current Amended Health Order Permits Re-Opening of Gyms but Not Bars - L.A. County’s amended Public Health Order issued last Thursday permits the reopening of additional business sectors and recreational amenities including gyms and fitness studios. While guidance for bars and wineries were issued at the State level, LA County’s updated order did not authorize the re-opening of bars and wineries in the most recent amendment to the Public Health Order.
  • Reduce Your Risk of COVID-19 - Avoid the Three C's – L.A. County Department of Public Health (DPH) published a document titled Reduce Your Risk of COVID-19 Outside the Home. The key points are to choose wisely, avoid the three C's, and plan ahead. Choose wisely by wearing face coverings, practicing physical distancing, and frequent handwashing. Avoid the three C's 1) Confined Spaces, 2) Crowds, and 3) Close Contact. The more C's, the higher the risk! Plan ahead by staying informed, calling before arrival and asking about safety measures.
  • DMV Re-Opened All Field Offices -The California Department of Motor Vehicles
    (DMV) re-opened all field offices that were temporarily closed due to  COVID-19. Behind-the-wheel drive tests are not yet available. The DMV recommends customers use its online services, to complete transactions, including eligible driver license, vehicle registration renewals, and applications for the REAL ID. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the federal government extended the REAL ID enforcement date to October 1, 2021, a year later than previously announced to give people more time to apply.   • The State is Expanding its Coronavirus Testing Capacity -  Governor Newsom announced a COVID-19 Testing Task Force, a public-private collaboration that is working to scale up testing quickly to significantly boost California’s testing capacity.   • Help for Businesses Affected by COVID-19 - The L.A. County Small Business Development Center (SBDC) is hosting an online webinar focused on Survival to Success – Re-opening, Funding, and Growing. The webinar takes place Wednesday, June 17, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM and will cover an update on funding (EIDL/PPP) and other loans and grants.  Pre-registration is required.   Presented by SBDC, visit eventbrite to register, or for more information on the SBDC, visit smallbizla.org.
  • L.A. County Daily Briefing Statistics on COVID-19 - DPH has confirmed 19 new deaths and 1,071 new cases of COVID-19 in today's daily briefing. There are a total of 2,926 deaths; ninety-three percent of people who died had underlying health conditions. Testing capacity continues to increase in L.A. The City of Manhattan Beach has proclaimed a Local State of Emergency (PDF) regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. Staff continues to monitor and speak with the health experts at Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LACDPH), California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Their health expertise and guidance are critical to the City’s planning and response to the coronavirus.
