Narrative:
Nine Drivers Cited for being Unlicensed at DUI Checkpoint
Camarillo, CA. – The Camarillo Police Department did not arrest any drivers on suspicion of DUI, but cited nine drives for being unlicensed or driving on a suspended driver’s license while conducting a DUI enforcement checkpoint on June 12, 2020.
The checkpoint was held on Arneill Road, north of Fiesta Drive from 8:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.
No drivers were cited if their license expired during the pandemic and no vehicles were towed.
Checkpoint locations are based on a history of crashes and DUI arrests. The primary purpose of checkpoints is not to make arrests, but to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving intoxicated.
With the loosening of the stay at home restrictions and restaurants and bars now allowed to operate, the Camarillo Police Department is committed to keeping the public safe.
“Driving under the influence is dangerous, illegal and puts a further strain on resources in the middle of a pandemic,” says Chief of Police Eric Tennessen. “We are still out there and will not hesitate to stop drivers who drive impaired.”
Drivers charged with DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.
The Camarillo Police Department reminds the public that impaired driving is not just from alcohol. Some prescription medications or over-the-counter drugs may interfere with

driving. Always follow directions for use and read warning labels about driving or” operating heavy machinery,” which includes driving a car. While medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal, driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal.
The Camarillo Police Department will be holding a series of DUI Enforcement patrols throughout the year to keep our roadways safe. Funding for this DUI Operation was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
