Current Initiatives and Updates
- Reduce Your Risk of COVID-19 - Avoid the Three C's 1) Confined Spaces - especially with poor ventilation. Outdoors is better than indoors. 2) Crowds – the more people, the higher the risk. 3) Close Contact – staying further apart is safer than being close together. The more C's, the higher the risk!
- City Council to Discuss Budget and Additional COVID-19 Measures, Thursday, June 18, 11:00 AM – View the agenda and attachments on the City's website. In the interest of maintaining appropriate social distancing, the City Council encourages the public to participate by using one of the options to submit public comments found on the City's website.
- Citywide Street Sweeping Resumed Monday –The City resumed citywide street sweeping of public streets. To allow residents time to adjust to the resumption of service, a two-week grace period will be provided before street sweeping parking restrictions will be enforced. Tickets for all parking violations will be issued beginning Monday, June 29. Residents should comply with the posted parking signs once the grace period ends.

- All Traffic and Non-Traffic Infractions Rescheduled - L.A. Superior Court announced that all Traffic and Non-Traffic infraction appearances scheduled between March 17 and June 22, 2020, have been rescheduled. Notifications of new court dates have been sent. The Court offers options to Resolve Citations Online without having to come to Court. To comply with Public Health safeguards, advance reservations are required to speak with a courthouse clerk. - Actions in Response to COVID-19 – Governor Newsom issued an Executive Order that addresses a variety of issues in response to the pandemic, which includes:
- Broadening enrollment in the California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs) program;
- Allowing for self-attestation of pregnancy and conditions of eligibility, and waiving in-person identification requirements;
- Extending permission for commercially-licensed food trucks to operate in the roadside rest areas to ensure infrastructure workers have access to food;
- Suspending face-to-face visits for eligibility for extended foster care; and
- Extending real estate license applications and renewal fees and continuing education requirements for licenses.
- Re-Opening with Worker Safety and Health a Priority - As more workplaces re-open, the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is reminding employers that worker safety remains a priority amid both coronavirus and common workplace hazards. In all phases of re-opening, employers need to plan for potential hazards related to the coronavirus, as well as those stemming from routine workplace processes. - Travel Restrictions Extended at Land Ports – The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced the extension to limit non-essential travel restrictions at land ports of entry with Canada and Mexico. The restriction is based on protecting America's borders from the threat of COVID-19. Visit dhs.gov for more information.
- Small Business Webinar on Capital and Connections - The California Entrepreneurship Task Force (ETF) and the Office of the Small Business Advocate (CalOSBA), will host a COVID-19 Rapid Response Virtual Session titled "Capital and Connections Part I: Loans and Resources." The session takes place Friday, June 19, at 11:00 AM. Registration is required. Join ETF for the first of a two-part series on capital. Learn from lenders and small businesses through a discussion on resources, strategies, partnerships, and opportunities.
- L.A. County Daily Briefing Statistics on COVID-19 – L.A. County Department of Public Health (DPH) has confirmed 33 new deaths and 1,337 new cases of COVID-19 in today's daily briefing. There are a total of 2,959 deaths; ninety-three percent of people who died had underlying health conditions. Testing capacity continues to increase in L.A. The City of Manhattan Beach has proclaimed a Local State of Emergency (PDF) regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. Staff continues to monitor and speak with the health experts at Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LACDPH), California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Their health expertise and guidance are critical to the City’s planning and response to the coronavirus.
