The Sleepy Eye Police Department in the last week has had multiple scams reported. Two we want to make the public particularly aware of.  Citizens are getting text messages from their Pastor or Priest asking them to contact them with a specific number. The scam is using the name of actual Sleepy Eye area Pastors and Priests. If you are unsure if this is a scam, please contact your Pastor or Priest through the Church phone number.  The second scam we are seeing a rise in where the scammer contacts an elderly person pretending to be a grandson that been placed in jail and needs bail money. If you receive this scam and are unsure if it is real, please contact family members to check on any grandchildren. The Sleepy Eye Police wants everyone to exercise caution when receiving any phone call or text from any person. Scammers will pretend to be anyone to gain access to information or money. Personal information should never be given out and money should not be sent for anything until it has been verified completely.
