On Thursday, June 18, 2020, at approximately 5:53 PM, Sausalito Police Officers were dispatched to Mollie Stone’s Market, 100 Harbor Ave, on the report of a male customer that had inappropriately touched a female customer and made verbal threats. The male had reportedly touched the female in the area of her groin and buttocks. The male was described as white, approximately 40 years of age, 5 foot 6 inches tall, wearing a green sweatshirt and yellow hat, and carrying a brown duffel bag. The male was last seen walking from the market towards Bridgeway.

At approximately 5:56 PM, Officer Bryce Mitchell located Donald Carey (a 42-year-old transient from the Half Moon Bay area) in the 2300 block of Marinship Ave. Carey matched the description of the man who had inappropriately touched the female and he was carrying a brown duffel bag. Carey was detained without incident while officers investigated.

During their investigation, officers learned that while in the market, Carey had walked behind a 38-year-old female who had been standing in an aisle looking at groceries. While walking behind the female, Carey used his hand to touch the female’s groin area and buttocks as he passed her. Carey then walked away from the female but remained in the market. When confronted by market staff after committing the battery, Carey was confrontational and verbally argumentative prior to leaving the property.

While interviewing witnesses at the market, officers learned that Carey had also attempted to touch the buttocks of a minor aged female while he was in the market. The minor female and her mother left before the police arrived indicating to market staff that they did not want to be involved. The Sausalito Police Department is requesting anyone with information regarding the interaction between Carey and the minor female to contact Officer Bryce Mitchell at (415) 289-4100 ex. 817.

Carey was arrested for sexual battery and booked into the Marin County Jail.
