- Celebrating Fathers at a Distance – As you prepare to celebrate all fathers and father figures, near and far,you may be tempted to gather. Gatherings with family or friends who do not live in the same household remains prohibited by County orders. Practicing social distancing to protect your parent(s) from exposure, is an act of love. If dining out for Father’s Day, be sure to wear face coverings. To all Fathers, including those Fathers serving our Country, have a happy and relaxing Father’s Day!
- Virtual #CoffeewiththeMayor on Wednesday, June 24, 3:00 PM - Join Mayor Richard Montgomery for a casual conversation over a cup of coffee from the comfort of your own home on Wednesday, June 24, at 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM via Zoom video conference. This is your opportunity to interact with the Mayor, get to know him, convey a concern, ask a question, or just listen to the conversation. To ensure Mayor Montgomery will be able to answer all questions in the hour, please email questions in advance of Wednesday’s virtual meeting. - Change to COVID-19 Updates to Twice-A-Week – The City of Manhattan Beach remains committed to providing the community with critical information and updates on the COVID-19 pandemic. Starting next week, the weekday COVID-19 Situation Report will be twice-a-week on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Should any COVID-19 or new developments happen, the City will release timely information using platforms that include: Nixle Public Safety Alerts, Facebook, Twitter, Nextdoor, Instagram, and post content on the City's website.
- MB Recovers – L.A. County Department of Public Health (DPH) announced in a press release that it issued a revised Public Health Order allowing additional business sectors to re-open. Among the businesses now permitted with restrictions are: personal care establishments (i.e. nail, tanning, lash salons, estheticians, cosmetology services, massage, and skin care), and bars, among others. Prior to re-opening, businesses must implement protocols indicated in the health order as listed in the City’s Recover MB webpage. Additionally, the County has further ordered that anyone outside their home wear a face covering when in or likely to be in contact with non-household members.
- COVID-19 Remains a Threat - The County continues to monitor the spread of the virus and the healthcare system's capacity to provide residents with essential services. With these re-openings, L.A. County will be in Phase 3 of the State’s Resilience Roadmap. However, if at any time, the County’s rate of infection and other key metrics demonstrate a rapid acceleration of new cases that threatens to overwhelm the healthcare system, the County may need to limit future re-openings or close re-opened sectors.

- Update on COVID-19 Testing – L.A. County residents interested in being tested for COVID-19 are encouraged to first contact their Primary Care Provider or Healthcare Center about receiving a test at their facility. If you do not have access to this care or are unable to contact them, free testing is avaialbe across L.A. County. Priotity is given for those who meet criteira in accordance with the new State guidelines. Visit lacounty.gov/testing for more information.
- Complete the 2020 Census Today – Why the Census is Essential to Municipalities - Getting the count wrong now will have impacts for the next 10 years on how well-resourced cities, are to recover from COVID-19 and in shaping the systems that respond to and rectify institutional and structural racism. The events of 2020 mean that the implications of a fair and accurate 2020 Census have gone from important, to urgent. The results of the 2020 Census will inform decisions about the allocation of hundreds of billions of dollars each year to communities across the country. To date, Manhattan Beach has a self-response rate of 63.7%, up only 0.9% in three weeks. The 2020 Census is underway and the most important thing you can do is respond. Complete the Questionnaire today. The 2020 Census questionnaire should be completed by the person who owns or rents the living quarters, or any other person who is at least 15 years of age with knowledge of the household.
- L.A. County Daily Briefing Statistics on COVID-19 – DPH has confirmed 38 new deaths and 1,414 new cases of COVID-19 in today's daily briefing. There are a total of 3,063 deaths; ninety-three percent of people who died had underlying health conditions. Testing capacity continues to increase in L.A. The City of Manhattan Beach has proclaimed a Local State of Emergency (PDF) regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. Staff continues to monitor and speak with the health experts at Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LACDPH), California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Their health expertise and guidance are critical to the City’s planning and response to the coronavirus.
