Suspect arrested after shooting at KCSO deputies and CHP officers in Rosamond

On June 22, 2020, at 8:00 p.m., deputies from the Kern County Sheriff's Office and officers with the California Highway Patrol were dispatched to a residence in the 3400 block of Leopard Ct. in Rosamond, CA, for a report of a subject shooting a firearm inside and outside of the residence.  Deputies and CHP officers arrived and heard gunshots coming from the residence.  As they approached the residence, they located Benjamin Avalos (38 years old) in the driveway.  Deputies identified themselves and Avalos fired approximately three rounds from a handgun at the deputies, who took cover.
Deputies continued to give Avalos commands, and he eventually put the firearm down, but continued to be verbally agressive with deputies.  Deputies used an electronic control device and were able to arrest Avalos after a struggle.
Deputies located a loaded handgun and ammunition in the driveway and located multiple spent shell casings inside and outside of the residence.  Deputies also recovered three handguns and two rifles from the residence.
Avalos was booked into the Kern County Jail on multiple counts of attempt homicide on a peace officer, assault with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest and other firearms related charges.  No deputies were injured in this incident.
