Part of New England Road - area of Smith's Lane in West Mifflin to Close July 6
The Department of Public Works announced that New England Road will close near its intersection with Smith’s Lane in West Mifflin Borough starting at 9 a.m. on Monday, July 6, 2020. The closure, which is expected to end in August 2020, is required for preservation of Pine Run Bridge No. 4. That includes installation of a new bridge deck, scour protection, and guide rail; replacement of an inlet; and approach roadway work.
Traffic will be detoured using Clairton Road (Route 885), Lebanon Church Road, and Camp Hollow Road. Smith’s Lane traffic will have access to New England Road during the closure.
The work is part of an ongoing project. New England Road has been closed near its intersection with Amblers Lane since March 16, 2020 for replacement of Pine Run Bridge No. 5. That restriction is expected to end the same day that Pine Run Bridge No. 4 closes.
There will also be another closure as part of the project. Starting in August, New England Road will close about 1,200 feet southeast of Smith’s Lane. That closure, which is expected to end in October 2020, is required for replacement of Pine Run Bridge No. 3. Traffic will be detoured using Clairton Road (Route 885), Lebanon Church Road, and Camp Hollow Road.
The project, which is being done by Pugliano Construction Co., Inc., of Pittsburgh, is part of the $1.6 million 2019 Capital Bridges contract.
