Arrest made in attempted homicide case in Wasco
On June 8, 2020, the Kern County Sheriff's Office responded to a victim of a shooting in the 400 block of N. Griffith Ave in Wasco. Deputies located a 32-year-old male suffereing from a gunshot wound. He was transported by air ambulance to a local hospital, where he is still listed in critical condition. Deputies from the Wasco Substation and homicide detectives began an investigation into the shooting. Detectives were able to develop probable cause to arrest Kelly Stafford (25-years-old) for attempted murder, participation in a criminal street gang and conspiracy, along with a juvenile from Wasco.
On June 23, 2020, at approximately 1 p.m., deputies assigned to the Wasco Substation located Stafford in the 1700 block of Hwy 46. Stafford was arrested and booked into the Kern County Jail on his arrest warrant. The juvenile was also located and arrested and booked into juvenile hall.
