Crime Alert Bulletin for the week of June 15-21, 2020

Notable Cases

On Monday, 06-15-20 at approximately 9:29 p.m., Officer Lajoie was dispatched to the 200 block of Evergreen Avenue on a report of a female being pushed by two males to the ground. The 60-year old victim told the officer that she was walking home with pizza and saw two males standing on the corner of Evergreen Avenue and Brunswick Street. She said she continued walking past the males on her way home to Peoria Street. The victim said as she came up to Evergreen Avenue, both males approached her from the rear and forcefully grabbed her purse by the straps and began to pull. The victim said she was holding two pizza boxes and kept her arm close to her body and didn’t let go of the purse. The victim said she fell to the ground and cut both of her knees and left hand. The victim said she began to yell for help until people came out of a nearby house. The victim said when people came out of their house, the subject let go of her purse and started running westbound on Evergreen Avenue and onto Brunswick Street. The victim described the subjects as two unknown race males, approximately 18-20 years old and between 5’2 and 5’5. The victim said one suspect was wearing a white tee-shirt and light-colored shorts. The other suspect was wearing a black sweatshirt and dark colored pants. Officers in the area were unable to find the suspects. This case is referred to investigators in hopes that someone captured the incident on home video surveillance.

On Wednesday, 06-17-20 at 2:10 a.m., Officer Lizana was dispatched to the 1000 block of Hillside Boulevard on a report of a subject who was walking in traffic and saying people were chasing him with guns. Officer Lizana contacted the subject, a 32-year old Daly City resident, who said he ran from his house on 3rd Avenue to escape from several men with guns in their hands who were chasing him. The subject said the men fired at least 30 shots at him, which he managed to avoid by running into traffic. The subject admitted to not taking his prescribed medication for being bi-polar and schizophrenic. Officer Lizana placed the subject on a 72-hour mental health hold, and the subject was transported to the hospital.

On Wednesday, 06-17-20 at 7:10 p.m., Officer L. Reyes was dispatched to the 2400 block of Junipero Serra Boulevard on a report of a male taking packages from a drop box. The reporting party gave a description of the suspect and said he was going westbound on School Street. A Broadmoor Police Officer saw an individual on 87th Street who matched the description of the subject. Officer Covarrubias arrived, and the officers asked the subject if had anything illegal in his possession. The dispatcher advised the officers the subject, a 32-year old San Francisco resident, was on probation and was subject to being searched. Officer L. Reyes searched the subject’s wheeled duffel bag and found three sealed Amazon packages with someone else’s name on them. The reporting party positively identified the subject as the one he saw stealing the packages. Officer L. Reyes cited the subject for possession of stolen property and mail theft.

On Thursday, 06-18-20 at 11:50 a.m., Officer Ortiz and Officer Sunga were dispatched to the Safeway store on a report of a subject who had masturbated behind a Wells Fargo Bank employee and was still on the scene. Detective Soyangco was in the area and talked to the subject. The 32-year old victim said is a Wells Fargo Bank employee who set up a booth outside the east entrance of the store to help direct the line of customers entering the store. The victim said no one was supposed to be sitting at the tables behind her but saw a homeless subject sitting there, so she did not bother him. The victim said at one point she turned around and saw the subject sitting in a chair facing her and masturbating. The victim asked her co-worker if he was doing what she thought he was doing, and the co-worker agreed. The victim ran in the store, called us and wanted to press charges. The officers placed the 28-year old transient subject under arrest for indecent exposure and lewd conduct in public.

On Thursday, 06-18-20 at 5:58 p.m., officers were dispatched to an apartment on the 300 block of Imperial Way on a report of a subject who had accidentally overdosed on Fentanyl. The reporting party said he was visiting his friend, and he saw the subject smoking something and then subsequently became unresponsive. The paramedics administered Narcan to the 52-year old subject and transported him to the hospital.

On Saturday, 06-20-20 at 8:34 a.m., Officer Cain was dispatched to the area of Brunswick Street and Acton Street on a report of a verbal disturbance following a traffic collision. Officer Cain spoke with the driver, a 28-year old Daly City resident, who said his wheel “got stuck”, resulting in him hitting a parked vehicle. The subject said he tried to over correct and hit two more parked vehicles. Officer Cain conducted field sobriety tests on the subject and subsequently arrested him for driving under the influence.

On Saturday, 06-20-20 at 8:58 p.m., Officer Sunga and Officer Ciucci were dispatched to the Domino’s Pizza on Geneva Avenue on a report of five to six juveniles showing a black pistol. The reporting party said a group of juveniles pointed a gun at his wife who was sitting in her car near the rear entrance of Domino’s Pizza. The reporting party said the juveniles took off running towards Sunnydale Avenue. The reporting party’s wife said they were all approximately 13 years old, and all males except one. Officers checked the area but could not find the suspects.

On Sunday, 06-21-20 at 11:14 p.m., Officer Premenko was dispatched to the 700 block of Hillside Boulevard on a report of a traffic collision with two parked vehicles and that there were possible downed power lines. There were 15 people at the scene when the officer arrived. Officer Jackson-Berrios assisted to translate for the suspect, a 33-year old Daly City resident, and they subsequent placed him under arrest for driving under the influence after he failed the field sobriety tests.


Robberies

There were no robberies and one attempted robbery during the past week.

On Monday, 06-15-20 at approximately 9:29 p.m., a 60-year old Daly City resident was the victim of an attempted robbery. This occurred on the 200 block of Evergreen Avenue. See “Notable Reports” for more information.

There were no residential burglaries during the past week.

There were no commercial burglaries during the past week.


Vehicle Burglaries

There were six vehicle burglaries during the past week.

• 600 block of Clarinada Avenue—a diagnostic car scanner was taken from a 1999 Ford Ranger. The driver’s side door lock was punched. Occurred between 7:30 p.m. on 06-19-20 and 3:00 p.m. on 06-20-20.
• Unit block of Fieldcrest Drive—nothing was taken from a 2019 Mercedes Benz GLA250. The front passenger window was smashed. Occurred on 06-20-20 between 8:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.
• Fieldcrest Drive/Lake Vista Avenue—nothing was taken from a 2002 Volkswagen Passat. The front passenger window was smashed. Occurred on 06-20-20 between 7:29 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.
• 300 block of Price Street—Jordan shoes were taken from a 2011 Ford Escape. The right rear window was smashed. Occurred between 5:00 p.m. on 06-20-20 and 7:00 a.m. on 06-21-20.
• Parking lot of 990 St. Francis Boulevard—DMV and insurance paperwork was taken from a 2003 Honda Pilot. The front passenger window was smashed. Occurred between 10:30 p.m. on 06-21-20 and 9:28 a.m. on 06-23-20.
• Unit block of Belmont Drive—keys were taken from the console of a 2018 Toyota Yaris. The method of entry is unknown. Occurred between 1:00 a.m. on 06-15-20 and 1:30 a.m. on 06-21-20. **On-line report.


Stolen Vehicles

Vehicle thefts are on the rise. There were twelve vehicles stolen during the past week. This is double from last week. **One vehicle was recovered.

• Unit block of Glenwood Avenue—a 1999 Honda Civic. Occurred on 06-15-20 between 12:00 a.m. and 6:15 a.m.
• 400 block of Price Street—a 1998 Honda Civic. Occurred on 06-15-20 at 2:23 p.m.
• Parking garage of 15 Poncetta Drive—a 2020 BMW R9T-15 motorcycle. Occurred between 7:00 p.m. on 06-15-20 and 8:00 a.m. on 06-16-20.
• 200 block of Price Street—a 2000 Ford Crown Victoria. Occurred between 1:30 p.m. on 06-15-20 and 11:30 a.m. on 06-16-20. **Recovered by Daly City P.D. on 06-18-20. An arrest was made.
• King Drive/Gellert Boulevard—a 2006 Ford F250. Occurred between 8:30 p.m. on 06-16-20 and 8:00 a.m. on 06-17-20.
• 100 block of Palmcrest Drive—a 1999 Honda CRV. Occurred between 6:00 p.m. on 06-19-20 and 9:30 a.m. on 06-20-20.
• Whittier Street/Bellevue Avenue—a 2008 Acura TL. Occurred between 6:00 p.m. on 06-19-20 and 11:00 a.m. on 06-20-20.
• Unit block of St. Francis Boulevard—a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado pickup. Occurred between 10:30 a.m. on 06-20-20 and 7:00 a.m. on 06-21-20.
• Parking lot #B of Seton Hospital—a 1996 Acura TL. Occurred on 06-21-20 between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 a.m.
• Unit block of Belmont Avenue—a 2007 Toyota Corolla. Occurred on 06-21-20 between 8:15 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.
• Unit block of Abbot Avenue—a 1997 Honda CRV. Occurred between 3:00 p.m. on 06-21-20 and 10:00 a.m. on 06-22-20.
• Brunswick Street/Wellington Avenue—a 2002 Ford F250 Econoline. Occurred between 4:30 p.m. on 06-20-20 and 11:00 a.m. on 06-22-20.


Miscellaneous

• There were 4 domestic disturbance cases reported
• There were no shoplifting incidents reported
• There were 11 cases involving an involuntary psychiatric hold
• There were 6 malicious mischief/vandalism cases reported
• There were no arrests for public intoxication
• There was one hit and run collision reported
