COVID-19 Update: Situation Report (June 25, 2020) See details:

Current Initiatives and Updates

  • Our Community, Our Health, Our Responsibility: Wear a Face Covering- As L.A. County continues to have significant community transmission, we must be extra diligent to help slow the spread and not put our neighbors at risk of serious health complications or death. Wearing face coverings when outside your home is required per State and County guidelines. Protect the ones you love, avoid the three C’s 1) Confined Spaces - especially with poor ventilation. Outdoors is better than indoors. 2) Crowds – the more people, the higher the risk.  3) Close Contactstaying further apart is safer than being close together.  The more C's, the higher the risk!
  • Bring Your Reusable Bags When Shopping– The City of Manhattan Beach’s long-standing plastic bag ban is still in effect. Governor Newsom’s Executive Order allowing grocery retailers to temporarily provide single-use plastic bags has expired. The Executive Order was not intended to apply to the 100+ local single-use plastic carryout bag prohibition ordinances that were adopted before the enactment of the statewide bag ban, including Manhattan Beach. In addition, recyclable paper bags are still allowed under both Manhattan Beach and the State’s carryout bag laws. There is no credible scientific evidence that can be found that proves that reusable bags, when handled according to recommended safe practices, contribute to the spread of COVID-19. The California agency Cal-OSHA does NOT recommend prohibiting the use of reusable bags, and provided guidelines for infection prevention in grocery stores, and states, “If customers bring their own bags, ensure customers bag their own groceries, and customers do not bag groceries in the checkout area if they cannot maintain physical distancing. Groceries can be placed in a cart and bagged elsewhere by the customer.”
  • Fireworks are Prohibited - The City of Manhattan Beach would like to remind the public that it is illegal to possess or discharge fireworks of any type in the City. In addition to being illegal, the fireworks are upsetting to local pets.. As we approach the 4th of July Holiday, we are reminded to celebrate our independence safely. The City continues to protect your well-being and property; please do not place us or yourselves in unsafe situations with illegal discharge of fireworks. We ask your cooperation in continuing to make our City a safe community.
  • Concerts in the Park Cancelled - Following the guidance of L.A. County Public Health, the City has officially announced, the 2020 Concerts in the Park series has been cancelled due to COVID-19. While this decision comes with great sadness, the health and safety of concert goers, employees and our community remains a top priority!
  • Update on 2020 Hometown Fair and 10K Run – With health and safety as the priority, the Hometown Fair scheduled for October 2020 has been cancelled by the Hometown Fair Board. The Manhattan Beach 10K Run is going virtual in 2020; more details will be available late summer. In the spirit giving and because many organizations rely on the Hometown Fair to raise money, the Hometown Fair Board has approved $10,000 for grants. These grants will be distributed to community clubs, boosters and non-profits. Visit mbfair.org and mb10krun.com for more information.
  • Citywide Parking Violations Enforcement Resume on Monday, June 29 - The City resumed citywide street sweeping of public streets on June 15. To allow residents time to adjust to the resumption of service, a grace period was provided before street sweeping parking restrictions would be enforced. This grace period is ending. As a reminder, tickets for all parking violations will be issued beginning Monday, June 29. Residents should begin to comply with the posted parking signs once again.
  • Change to COVID-19 Updates to Twice-A-Week – The City of Manhattan Beach remains committed to providing the community with critical information and updates on the COVID-19 pandemic. Starting this week, COVID-19 Situation Report will be twice-a-week on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Should any COVID-19 or new developments happen, the City will release timely information using platforms that include: Nixle Public Safety Alerts, FacebookTwitterNextdoor, Instagram, and post content on the City's website.
  • City Council Adopts FY2020-2021 Budget – Following multiple discussions and public hearings over the past six months, the City Council adopted the Fiscal Year 2020-2021 Operating Budget. The General Fund budget is nearly balanced, maintains essential City services and continues to reserve funds in the future.

Visit animalcare.lacounty.gov for more information.
