Grand Terrace deputies arrested Joshua Vanderwork for retail theft

SUSPECT: Joshua Vanderwork , 30 years old, resident of Riverside.
VICTIM: Stater Bros. Market
SUMMARY:
On Thursday, June 25, 2020 at approximately 8:50 p.m., Grand Terrace deputies were patrolling in the Grand Terrace Town Square and observed two Stater Bros. Market employees chasing a male, later identified as Joshua Vanderwork, out the main entrance of the Stater Bros. Market. Vanderwork ran from the employees with a hand basket full of store merchandise and fled to a vehicle in the parking lot.
Deputies assisted the Stater Bros. employees and contacted Vanderwork at the vehicle. The Stater Bros. employees advised deputies that Vanderwork exited the market without purchasing any of the items in the hand basket.
Deputies immediately detained Vanderwork and all the stolen merchandise was returned to the Stater Bros. employees at the scene. The Stater Bros. employees confirmed the merchandise stolen by Vanderwork was valued over $100.
Stater Bros. Market desired criminal prosecution against Vanderwork. Vanderwork was arrested and booked into the Central Detention Center without incident.
