INCIDENT:          PC 273a(a), Willful Cruelty to a Child
                       
LOCATION:        7300 block of Dumosa Avenue in the city of Yucca Valley 
 
SUSPECT:         Phillip Candelaria, 34-year-old resident of Yucca Valley
                           
VICTIM:               Three-month old male
 
SUMMARY:
On Friday, June 26, 2020, Detectives from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Specialized Investigations Division, Crimes Against Children (CAC) Detail were notified of a three-month old victim who was admitted to the Loma Linda University Hospital (LLUMC) with a severe injury. Forensic Pediatric Doctors at LLUMC determined the injury was not accidental and was caused by severe physical abuse.
 
Through the investigation, Detectives learned the victim was in the care of Phillip Candeleria at the residence in the city of Yucca Valley. While under the care of Candeleria, the victim sustained a severe injury consistent with child abuse. At the conclusion of the investigation, Detectives determined Candeleria caused the injury to the victim. Candeleria was arrested and booked into the Morongo Basin Jail for violation of PC 273a(a)- Willful Cruelty to a Child.
 
The case will be submitted to the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s office for review.
