There is a peaceful demonstration planned for tomorrow, June 28 (Eng/Sp)
COSTA MESA, Calif. (June 27, 2020) – The Costa Mesa Police Department (CMPD) will be monitoring a planned peaceful demonstration tomorrow, Sunday, June 28, 2020, in Costa Mesa. The peaceful demonstration is expected to start at 11:00 a.m. on the corner of Newport Boulevard and Harbor Boulevard. CMPD has been in contact with the organizer of this peaceful demonstration and will keep an open line of communication throughout the event to ensure a safe environment for the public and participants.
At this time, crowd size is unknown. If a large gathering forms, CMPD will post updates on their Twitter account @CostaMesaPD to inform the public on traffic alerts and potential street closures.
CMPD is dedicated to giving peaceful demonstrators a safe environment to exercise their First Amendment rights. While CMPD supports the public’s right to peaceably assemble and demonstrate, it does not tolerate violence, vandalism, and destruction of property.
Those planning to attend are asked to please be safe, remain peaceful, respect others’ property, and report those individuals inciting violence and criminal activity. As we see a rise in COVID-19 cases in the county and the city, CMPD also asks that everyone practice social distancing and wear their masks.
