NARRATIVE:
On June 28, 2020 at approximately 12:15 pm officers from the Township of Ocean Police Department responded to the 7-11 store located at West Park Avenue and Kings Highway in Ocean Township for a report of an altercation involving two men, possibly involving a knife. On scene, police officers located a subject fitting the description of one of the actors outside the store. He was later identified as Daquan Beerman. Beerman was holding a piece of firewood in his hand. After negotiations with police, he dropped the piece of wood and was detained by officers. Follow up investigation by police revealed a 7-11 employee, identified as Gady Shahin, had been involved in the altercation with Beerman and had brandished a box cutter. Shahin was subsequently arrested and charged with possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes and unlawful possession of a weapon. He was arrested, processed and released on a criminal summons pending a future court date.
Further investigation by Detective Michael Legg and Raheem Carter revealed that Beerman was an active participant in the altercation and had brandished a piece of firewood during the incident. Beerman also threatened to kill two 7-11 employees during this incident. It was determined the altercation stemmed from Beerman confronting Shahin about Shahin eating food inside the store, as well as not wearing a mask inside the store. Beerman was later charged with possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, unlawful possession of a weapon and terroristic threats. Beerman charges were placed on a criminal summons pending a future court date.
