Manhattan Beach, CA (June 29, 2020) -  Today, the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Health issued revised Public Health Orders regarding beaches, bars, and fireworks. Specifically, the County ordered that: 

1. Bars, breweries, brew pubs, pubs, wineries and tasting rooms in L.A. County, unless they are offering sit-down dine-in meals, must close until further notice. Bar areas in restaurants must also close; 
2. All public beaches, piers, public beach parking lots, beach bike paths that traverse the sanded portion of the beach, and beach access points will be temporarily closed for the Fourth of July holiday weekend in an effort to prevent gatherings and crowds that may spread COVID-19. The closure period begins as of 12:01 a.m. on July 3, 2020 and lasts until 5 a.m. on July 6, 2020; and
3. Fireworks displays that are intended for viewing by more than one household of persons are also prohibited until further notice.

 
Please note that the County may revise its order to allow piers with businesses to remain open.

This decision from the County of Los Angeles comes as a result of key metrics that continue to show steep increases in positive coronavirus cases. The 7-day average of daily reported new cases of COVID-19 in Los Angeles County is nearly 2,000, an increase from the 1,379 average two weeks ago. In addition, the cumulative positivity rate has increased from the lowest daily rate of 4.6% positivity in late May to 8.4% today. 
 
In Manhattan Beach, positive coronavirus cases have increased from 80 cases on June 1 to 131 cases on June 29. 
 
As a result of the updated Orders, the County has also revised the protocol for restaurants to align with Governor Newsom’s Order to close bars, brewpubs, wineries and tasting rooms in select counties.
 
As indicated in prior press releases, the County continues to monitor the spread of the virus and the healthcare system's capacity to provide residents with essential services. As a result of the County’s rate of infection and other key metrics demonstrating a rapid acceleration of new cases that threaten to overwhelm the healthcare system, the County has chosen to limit future re-openings or close re-opened sectors and recreational activities.
 
The City continues to promote and advocate for the measures taken by Public Health officials to limit the spread of COVID-19. The City asks the community to comply with these required guidelines as they have been shown to significantly contribute to the initial decline in positive coronavirus cases in the prior month. By adhering to social distancing, wearing face coverings, being safer at home, hand washing, and avoiding crowds, confined spaces, and close contact, the region can collectively mitigate future surges in coronavirus cases.
