Current Initiatives and Updates

  • Our Community, Our Health, Our Responsibility: Wear a Face Covering- Everyone must always wear a face covering securely over your nose and mouth and keep six feet apart from others not in your household when out and about. Businesses must continue to follow Public Health directives. It is the collective responsibility shared between everyone, including businesses and residents, to slow the spread of COVID-19 and to prevent an overwhelming surge of COVID-19 cases at healthcare facilities. Your actions saves lives!
  • L.A. County Closes Beaches, Beach Parking Lots, Bike Paths, Pier and Beach Access Points –The L.A. County Department of Public Health (DPH) issued a Revised Public Health Order to temporarily close public beaches, piers, beach parking lots (except for permit holders), beach bike paths, and beach access points for the Fourth of July weekend. The closure includes South Bay beaches, including Manhattan Beach, and is to prevent gatherings and crowds that may spread COVID-19. To that end, the City will increase weekend security measures to address outdoor activity, foot traffic, and any impact on residents and businesses. During the holiday weekend, the additional personnel will monitor beach access and re-direct vehicular traffic where needed.
  • Virtual #CoffeewiththeMayor Tomorrow at 3:00 PM - Join Mayor Montgomery tomorrow afternoon for an hour in a casual conversation from the comfort of your home. Get to know the Mayor, convey a concern, ask a question, or just listen to the conversation. Email questions in advance to ensure Mayor Montgomery answers all items in the hour. • Celebrate Independence Day at a Distance – As the Fourth of July nears, you may be tempted to make plans to gather with family members, friends, and neighbors. Please celebrate safely with only those in your household. Avoid all gatherings, and continue to follow social distancing guidelines!
  • Fireworks are Prohibited - The City of Manhattan Beach reminds the public that it is illegal to possess or discharge fireworks of any type in the City. In addition to being illegal, the fireworks are upsetting to local older adults, Veterans, and pets. The City continues to protect your well-being and property; please do not place us or yourselves in unsafe situations with illegal discharge of fireworks.
  • L.A. County Bars, Breweries, and Bar Areas in Restaurants Must Close -  Key metrics continue to show steep increases in positive coronavirus cases.  In Manhattan Beach, positive COVID-19 cases have increased from 80 cases on June 1 to 135 cases on June 30. Governor Newsom issued Guidance for Closure of Bars in select counties, including Los Angeles. DPH issued a Revised Public Health Order and Revised Protocol for Restaurants to close bars, brewpubs, wineries, and tasting rooms, unless the bar offers sit-down dine-in meals, to close until further notice; this includes bar areas in restaurants. The revised Health Order applies to bars and bar areas in restaurants in Manhattan Beach.
